I read that the SEGA I/Os can also do Capcom games, and that buttons 4+5 for both 1p+2p are carried on the JAMMA edge and button 6 you wire from a pin on the I/O.

I know my Blast City is wired for button 4 and 5 properly on the JAMMA edge cos I've used it successfully for Neo Geo at least.

But using the I/O , in test it's showing the all the kick harness buttons coming from the JAMMA edge are firing at once when I just wire button 4 to the CP and press that button alone!

I searched online a bit and don't see anyone else with this issue. The JAMMA edge on the Type 1and my cab both look fine .

Should I try my Type 2 or 3 as well? What should I do?

Yeah not sure about this method. I have personally never used it but my understanding was that this only worked with a rev b or rev c sega I/O and that it was a little flakey.

I do it like this on my Naomi,

This connects to the kick harness from my NAC

I think the little jumper on the Sega io board has to be one way or the other. Can’t remember offhand

I have then run 2 wires from buttons 4 to both the player 1&2 and kick harness plugs in the CP.

This way my Astro also works on cps2 boards

Thank you so much for the detailed pics and info! I forget there are jumpers on the I/O as well to check.

Did you make that the connector from your I/O to the NAC, or buy it from somewhere ? It looks pretty new. That looks perfect, I would love the same thing.

I realized that even tho I have a spare Naomi mobo fixed now, I only have one Capcom I/O so I can't play a Naomi game on another cabinet without figuring out the SEGA I/O kick harness situation ;p

I made my own,

brought a set of engineer brand crimpers and the JST Nh header and pins. plus the AMP Up connector and pins for the cabinet end.

Works out nicely. Buttons 1-4 on the normal player 1 and 2 plugs in the CP, but I also double wire both P1 and P2 button 4 to the kick 10 pin plug in the CP, then buttons 5 and 6 for both players go to the 10 pin kick plug in the Cp.

This way they work on the naomi stuff via the jamma io, as the naomi expects player 4 button on the main 12 pin plug and 5 &6 on the 10 pin kick harness. and then the mvs works for button 4 on the jamma connector on the 12 pin plug. The cps only wants 4,5&6 all on the 10 pin kick harness and none on the jamma. So double wiring button 4 makes everything work I have so far.

Updating for posterity , and thank you for the help and ideas!

I have a CPS2 kick harness to CN8 (blast city ) connector that I use for Capcom, so I spliced that to the needed buttons.

1P LK/MK/GND & 2P LK/MK/GND from the I/O JAMMA edge itself , and both HKs from the pins on the I/O.

I used male and female QDs so I can swap in and out with other I/Os.

Idk why my default JAMMA Blast City buttons 4 and 5 are bridged when using the I/O, but this worked.
