I thought might be useful share my positive experience about the PSU Mean Well QP-150-3A in combo with the Naomi NetDimm WiPi setup. I found it to be an excellent alternative to the original Sun PSU and with the same feature to adjust the 3.3v and 5.5v outputs.
I was running this setup with an old spare ATX PSU. Most of games ran with no issues except for Virtua Stricker 3 and Beach Spikers that froze occasionally. Following @twistedsymphony advice, I checked the 3.3v output and although my measure couldn’t be accurate it ended up to be around 3.15v. The Naomi is well-known to be picky about the 3.3v and perhaps these games are in particular. Also, I think my old ATX PSU was not performing well.
Next step was to find an alternative to the original Sun PSU, compatible with 240v input and with adjustable 3.3v and 5v output. I was looking for a Mean Well one and @nem recommended the QP-150-3A.
Besides to buy a brand-new PSU and make a new harness for it, I thought to incorporate three digital voltmeters to the setup.
All sorted. I had a number of long sessions of gaming with issues anymore.
Wiring for the voltage input
A sample of the voltmeter wiring
Full wiring setup on the QP-150-3A. You can see that I incorporated also a IEC 320-C14 connector which will make the Naomi setup compatible with all the different inputs voltages and plugs.
A few pictures of the setup complete. I used it with my New Astro City mostly so I installed everything on a plywood board of similar dimensions of the existing one, so I can easy swap the board. (In the final version I relocated the PSU brackets on the opposite side to avoid any conflit with the board rail)
Here is the setup in the cab.
Hopefully I will find the time to share the full story in a video!
