NEC PC Engine RGB amp

@djsheep I hate all international shipping not just AUS. They make me fill out this forum stating value and all kinds of other bullshit.Fuck off post office, I don't have time to feed you what is most likely lies anyway.
Ha... and yep, that's how international mail's worked the entire time I've been alive. Customs forms. Not really a big deal for most, but if it pisses you off, 100% all good, just think of all the poor people filling out the forms sending you stuff from abroad doe! :(

Indeed, custom forms suck. From Australia to USA is a time consuming task as the US (and China now) require all info written on the custom form to be typed in and lodged in the system, and my postal lady (as lovely as she is) is a one finger typist. Took me an hour to send 6 packages the other day to the USA.

I'm still plodding away at this. In a draft phase however I believe I have a sound circuit courtesy of some communication with Tim Worthington.

THS7374 based, bypassing the internal clamp, AC coupled, power filtering to eliminate high frequency noise entering the video signal, DC offset on output.

is this amp likely to work with the super grafx/ssds3 as well?

if so, count me in...

Nice design Frank!

If it can fix my Terraonion SSDS3, that’d be awesome. @dexster do you have more info on what’s needed to fix on the TO device?

The cool thing about this is that folks can make use of it for other applications. Like, I've been wanting a discreet RGB amp for gutted MAME cabs but my skills aren't there yet. @Sp33dFr34k needs something for his situation. So since this is going to be opensource, will provide a blueprint for other applications.

Ok, back on the topic.

I thought there were some audio issues? My unit isn’t from the first batch, but just after when they delayed the second lot of pre orders to “fix” the issues.

According to StoneAgeGamer only revision A has issues, revision B (currently sold) is said to be prefect.
I have revision B, and I haven't noticed any audio or video issues... What specifically should I be looking for so I can check?

Haven't personally used either (always used mickris board), so I can't comment on the actual quality of those two.

But I do like that doujindance's solution has an audio amp to increase the audio levels, though I've never had an issue with just adjusting the volume on my TV or speakers.

I have installed and swapped out many PC-E rgb and audio mods over the years, I also got the early SSDS3 and had to get the rgb and audio boards separately which was annoying at the time.
Personally I would go with the doujinman, it's a much more thought-through solution. The audio amp benefit is also great, as the PC-E audio is quite crap. doujinman is such a clean solution and the install video is very to-the-point and helpful. He also offers a region mod too and includes the ghosting caps (which the legend Tim Worthington figured out). ticks all the boxes!

When you ask "what is best", both solutions RGB wise are elegant and effective. They might well be the same circuit (guessing). Once an oscilloscope is used to measure the exact 0.7v pp outputs, you could say that the rgb output is perfect on both.

goodluck @nonosto :)

I've been looking all over for a project just like this but it looks to have stalled. @Frank_fjs any plans to pick it up again? It would be great if there was at least one well designed open sourced PC Engine RGB amp out there.
