Hi arcade-projects,
I have always gone by 'ifkz' on most any forum I have ever belonged to, so why not continue that as I dip my toes back into the arcade scene. I was once very active starting since 2006 with my first cabs: a ruined Centipede and a saveable Xybots. Since those cabs (I've still got 'em) and more along the way, I dove into arcade PCB repair. Now after a, well a minute...a couple of years, I am feeling a renewed pull back to the hobby, just differently focusing on getting my stuff back to working once again, and that's it. This forum of ya'lls seems like just the place to put down some new roots.
I've made my first project CPS-1 repair which is going to be my next post: Using boards I had written off to make a working conversion game from my parts I have on-hand. Next up is a "what caps are missing" on my SEGA SYSTEM C-2 HARDWARE (Bloxeed). Then I have a couple more to work on in addition to the bread and butter jobs like cap kits, "why DID my game die?" and things like that.
If I ever had any spot of fame, I was the person that cracked the final protection to get a de-suicided Zero Team (SEIBU) to go from scrambled graphics to proper graphics. A small thing, but it helped get more working boards back in circulation at the time.
My hardware is fine, but it's really old, but it's flexible stuff. I've got a 1997 Xeltek Superpro II hooked up to a 1994 386 PC that's my arcade workhorse. It was there for me the first time and it is pumping out the burned eproms again in 2026. The max chips it can handle are from the CPS-1 era but that's fine by me.
