New NEO-GEO Aes will be released ?

That's the one that tempts me as well, but I need to see more details about what they're claiming this will do before I toss money at them. So far all we've got are renders.
Same here!
Do we know if this will be widely available after launch? It is a disguised crowdfunding right now after all.
If everything is as promised, I would be tempted by the ultimate pack with everything. But that means no fuck ups in the execution like compatibility, accuracy, digital and analogue outputs, lag, etc.

It's not crowdfunding since Amazon carries it. Some are holding off cause they don't know Plaion but have preordered from Amazon (games and accessories for now) since no funds are exchanged until the item is shipped.

To big a carrot to miss out on, was never fortunate enough to but when I was kid, ordered the ultimate and white edition. Would be good to have seen inside it first but is what it is. Means my OG console can have a rest!

The big question mark are multicarts.
NeoSD Pro seems to already be very finicky on different revisions of OG hardware.
This is a huge concern for me as well.

They can easily add code into the BIOS to detect if the cart is not one of the 156 known games, and not boot it. UNIBIOS has been able to detect what game is booted 20 years ago.

Even questions like "which BIOS does it have and can it be changed" are things I want to see answered before buying.

I tried to measure my expectations, but at this point I am fully aboard the hype train and ready to be hurt.

EDIT: Also from Jotego's latest Patron email:

"You may have seen Plaion's announcement of an ASIC based NeoGeo console. An ASIC is a chip, an application-specific integrated circuit. This is the first retro product I know of that is using making dedicated chips. It is so cool! By the way, I should mention I took a small role in that project. I helped in the design review and I also licensed some of the JT intellectual property for the project. I am looking forward to seeing the final product!"

The problem is FOMO for me. If they don’t deliver then I’ll get my money back. Pay with a credit card. Easier to dispute charges. Learned the hard way dealing with that thief Fixel. PayPal only covers 120 days or so.

Do you have a credit card that covers >120 days?? The reason PayPal has 120 day coverage is because it lines up with credit card limits. PayPal passes the liability to the credit card.

It doesnt seem to be a limited product entirely. I don't seem to recall the other stuff they sell being limited.

Perhaps the white console and the ultimate edition (super mega bargain edition??),, will be limited, but the original edition seems like it might just be a new product that they stock.

I'm predicting price rises before they get delivered... how i don't know but i just can't see how they stay at the current prices.

Unless they plan on making it back on games down the track. Either way, what a really nice surprise. Hearing Jotego was somewhat involved in it also makes me happy. That ultimate edition is looking mighty tempting.....

Well, I just tried to preorder and it looks like it's not available in the US at least not anymore. So one less thing to worry about.

Pirated taiwansese MVS Neogeo motherboards have existed for decades; I even own myself a few (highly sought after nowadays, not because they are valuable but because they are novel for people in the west), some of these take the MV1-A and MV1-C form factor but are equipped with "extra" features like stereo output:D, so it was only a matter of time before someone also released AES consoles. at least I never saw fake AES consoles in the 90s, given the cloned chips already existed in those years. so this time it seems SNK said "fuck it, I'll do it myself"

Take a look at this POC:

I mean... that's mine. These mostly use salvaged chips rather than new ones as I understand it, I am not aware of anyone having fully replicated a working Neo Geo MVS or AES with new parts. Which is why this AES+ is both interesting and a little suspect. If they pop up on Amazon etc for preorder I'll consider it if I can get the white unit.

I have a few aswell, but they don't use salvaged SNK chips, they are all cloned stuff, some of them use the classic Altera Fpga QFP's to mimic the customs, like the x2 ADK VDPs.

I was just pointing out that that specific one was one I found and posted about awhile back. Never did get wiki access to update there nor did I ever find any others like it. So not been able to determine it's origin etc.
