This is known issue to all new net city or net city owners that when playing cvs2, the controls will be come unresponsive randomly. The entire panel is unresponsive including the reset buttons. Only way to fix it is to power cycle or reload the game if you have a wipi netbooter. Our theory is there’s a bug in the code affecting the I/O on these machines. It only freezes between rounds or games. Never during a game. Anyone have any experience dealing with this or have any idea how to fix it? It seems to be only an issue with cvs2.

That is the official Sega I/O that comes in Naomi Universal, Net City and New Net City.

When I used to have a New Net City, I actually replaced this I/O for the Sega USB I/O (type 4) and it worked great for most games. It did not like the Y2 system though (KOF 2002 Ultimate Match).

I got another spare with this one. I wonder if it will work.
Since you live in San Jose, you can borrow a Sega USB I/O and see if it gives you any issues. They are the same exact size and the pinouts are the same too. Plus, they have USB, so you can use it on a PC (D input only). Drop me a DM if you re interested.

I wonder if there is any difference with my CF card rom.

Not sure on function but yellow/white 4 pin CN02 is not connected on either machine here.

How are you powering the I/O in each cab?

@nem - Yes, I can do that but can't access machines until next week.

After talking to someone, I'm starting to think this may be netboot related. Maybe I drop by with a CF card setup and see if the issue presents itself.

Does anyone know if the lockout happens after a specific amount of time or is it totally random?

It's random. It also freezes via GDRom. Keiichi331 tested it just to rule out all possibilities. It will freeze both for CF card reader and Netboot too. I even tried different roms via net boot. Lock, unlocked, PAL colour hacked.
