What's new

New section! Lets ball with best pinball of all time!

Think I've got the best combo nailed, though have been thinking of swapping out the Dr. Who for a Jackbot or something.

Nice translite. ;)

I've owned a decent but not extensive number of pins. I think my max for having all at once was 11, and that was pushing it for me. They're space hogs.

My remaining games are Metallica LE, Tron, and The Shadow. I'm babysitting an Attack From Mars for a friend too, so 4 games. I keep wondering if I couldn't use the space for something else, but I also think I'd probably play more if I swapped them out. Just haven't felt super motivated to do that.

Of all the games I've sold I probably miss Flash Gordon the most. And if I was to swap out Tron or Metallica it would probably be for a Keith Elwin title. I need to try King Kong.

Back in the day when I was a tech I used to play pinball on my breaks and would rotate between Theater of Magic, Addams Family, and Attack from Mars. with the occasional game of Simpsons Party, Star Trek TNG, or The Getaway.

More recently I've actually really started to appreciate some of the more simple B-Tier games like (DE) Jurassic Park, Starship Troopers, Genesis, Batman the Dark Knight, and weirdly CSI.

The one pinball machine I own I also consider to be the most underrated pinball of all time and that is Revenge from Mars. Most pin snobs turn up their nose at it because it's got a CRT, but the playfield and gameplay is nearly identical to the highly regarded Attack from Mars plus the CRT screen IMO adds a really impressive augmented reality effect that even after owning the machine for years still impresses me. But because of the monitor you can pick them up for about 1/4th the price of an Attack from Mars machine.

It's not that I'm a snob, I just don't enjoy the Pin2K games that much. It's a clever bit of tech. RFM is certainly better than Episode 1.

Multimorphic is doing the opposite but similar thing with the screen under the playfield, and I don't really dig that either.

I think fundamentally for me pinball is a game of physicality. And anything that moves away from that doesn't really add to the experience much. Pinball is pinball though, it's all fun.

I think episode 1 is a very impressive game, sure its lacking because the code is unfinished but as anyone whos worked on one will know, they built a full game with half the BOM, very clever engineering.

I wouldnt say its underappreciated but definetly doesnt deserve all the bashing it gets.

I guess it doesnt help the movie sucked either...

What is a BOM if you don't mind me asking, I enjoy stories of developers creative solutions to work with the constraints they're under if you know where I could read about what they did to make the game that'd be awesome too :)

BOM is Bill of material.. an exact list of everything that goes into building something :)

There are alot of stories surrounding pin2k, they were saving pinball! (and rfm did really well!), the plug was ultimatly pulled because slotmachines were more profitable and pinball was seen as a dying market..
