Hey everyone,

I bought a untested FFS AES game a few years back. Turned out to be non working and placed it on the back burner to figure it out. All this AES talk recently reminded me I had it, so I opened it and was really surprised at what I found. First of all it looks to have been tampered with, or a repair was previously attempted. But the boards look way off from FFS AES board. I uploaded some pics of the boards and the non working behavior. Any ideas here?

Thanks guys!

How it look on rear ?
You have to test roms... desolder it and test with programmer.

The PRG is fine but it looks like somebody tried to force the 4 meg c roms to work in the 2 meg positions.
Normally the c roms would be broken down into 2 meg chips but there are some versions of FFS that have those C roms in your photo fitted on a CHA256

Thank you! Ok, just so I understand correctly. Would that someone may have been SNK? Is that method even possible to achieve a working game? The work and boards seem really clean in general, without much signs of donar work per say. If it is a mismatch situation, seems like my options are slim. 🫤

I have no idea. Its very possible someone affiliated with SNK did it because they've been known to color outside the lines of uniformity.
One of the LS chips could be faulty which you would have to troubleshoot or you can remove and replace the C roms on a CHA 256 making it spec correct and clean from all the wiring.
I have a 256 I would sell if you live in the USA and need one.
