Hi everyone, following the advice of your chat I bought this
https://thebrewingacademy.com/products/openjvs-hat-for-raspberry-pi

I have a noami 2 that has always worked with the USB RS485 modification
WIPI version 5

Now I have made a new ISO updated to wipi latest version, jvs also and done all the settings but I always get bord not connect.

We've been doing all the tests we can for a week but we don't understand where the error could be.

RX AND TX when the naomi games start they flash for a short while and then the game gives an error.

The atomiswave games on the other hand start and the RX and TX LEDs flash steadily but no commands from the joypad work.

Please can you tell me where there might be a problem?

Thank you

Can be either a configuration / connection issue. Can you provide more photos of your setup and describe what your configuration is?

thank you so much for the reply, I hope this photo makes it clear

I would like to start by saying that you have never had any problems with the RS 485 modification
then the cable got damaged and I haven't solved it since then

Now with this configuration I have the latest version of open jvs and wipi
updated by client.

I can't understand what the problem is, it's been 10 days and I can't figure it out, thanks

Did you run the "Enable HAT Support" in WiPi? - if "yes" Did you test a different USB A to B cable?

of course I tried different printer cables but nothing
at least 4 0 5 including a new one for my laser engraver (perfectly working) and I enabled the hat but nothing

Furthermore, even with the other USB 485 modification I have the same error.

We can't understand why RXD AND TDX turn on briefly and as soon as the game starts with a board error

Only atomswave starts (or crazy taxi) but none of the controllers work

What i would do and check (not in any logic order :D) :
  • write a simple linux to a new sdcard and use the available tools/tests within the openjvs HAT guide to test if the hat / jvs connection is working
  • same checks can be run with the wipi ssh shell, but by installing a simple linux i would make sure that the wipi install is maybe defective
  • run the noami setup menu and check if the "jvc test" shows information, if it does not show up something is broken (cable, hat, openjvs software)
  • the error on naomi games show there is a jvs error, since the noami games do a lot of different errors. Atomiswave don't do those checks (if i remember correctly)
  • I would different games, since games require different setups (but i guess that is not the issue here)
  • test a different pi, test a different naomi
  • test an official i/o PCB on the noami, to check if the JVS Port on the noami is faulty (dont need to run games just enter NAOMI Setup menu and test JVS ... if it shows up there the connection is fine)
Which Pi do you run? 1? 3?
What is a "USB 485 modification"?
"RXD AND TDX turn on briefly" <-- you mean the leds on the HAT?

thank you for your time
I've always used this one from the 485
https://www.amazon.it/dp/B078X5H8H7?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
yes I mean the hat LEDs
I remember that when the game starts these LEDs flash very strongly
here they flash just before the game starts and then nothing
I also tried to restore the USB 485 cable but both with the hat and with this the error does not change I always have "i board not connect"

I think it's difficult that the hat (it's new arrived a few days ago)
and usb 485 are both broken

I've really tried everything but I no longer understand what it could be. Noami doesn't seem to have any kind of problem

I'm con raspberry pi 3

I am using the 485 converter as well. No problem with it.

Does your naomi, within the setup - JVS test menu, see the JVS pcb/connection? - maybe your naomi is faulty?

before booting the game I remembered that it didn't see the jvs anyway, during the game it saw the jvs controller.

Not now when the game starts I don't see anything
Noami doesn't seem to have any problems, I don't understand where it could be

You don't need to boot a game to check the JVS connection.

Do you have any other JVS I/O you can test with?

when they sold me the console they also gave me this but I don't have the power supply, (if you can suggest what cable I would need) maybe by connecting this I could understand if it is the Noami USB?

Do you have a MAK strike/Supergun for jamma - Just connect it to the jamma connector, which should be enough to power up that i/o

You did test your HAT with he Naomi Setup -> Test JVS, yes? :)

no I'm sorry I don't have that I never thought of using the jamma controllers,

both the hat and the usb 485 are not seen in the noami test menu

it tells me jvs not present

I really wonder if somehow you blew up your JVS connection on the naomi side.

If you like you could send me your naomi to test the I/O / Naomi for you (i live in germany, not sure if shipping is expensive). Just an offer if you don't have any other noami, I/Os to test it with.

I have some work to finish - Let me get back to you later, i will look into broken JVS stuff and maybe figure some more stuff out you could test.
