Posted this over on the neo geo forums and didn't get any traction so reposting it here in the hopes maybe someone around here knows something.

Does anyone make these links cables or adapters anymore? On the unibios web page it lists the email of Mike and I tried emailing but didnt hear back.

Anyway, I mainly wanted to use it to monitor certain RAM addresses (even just a single address would.probably be fine) in real time as a game is being played so i can see it changing. Can the pc2neo parallel cable do this or do you need the USB version?

I know the unibios will let you check memory but im not aware of a way to do it while the game ia being played as the unibios pauses the game.

I have the link cable, but not so useful. My suggestion is using MAME debugger.

Yes I know but I would like to be able to monitor a value in ram on a real mvs or aes as im playing the game. Do you have the usb or parallel cable?

Thats not what the pc2neo does. Its for upload/downloading data to the neo geo. ie: download the program roms of an undumped game or upload a small homebrew game and run it. If you want real time you would likely need a logic analyzer connected to the 2 ram chips associated with the address(es) you are trying to monitor.

Are you able to monitor a memory address in real time with this? It looks liked it had a peek function on the gui but I was unsure if that allowed continuous monitoring or not?

How difficult do you think this would be with a logic analyzer? Im not against this approach but not really sure what exactly I need to do it.

It would be difficult and not sure how well it could be done because of the number pins. I'm curious why you can't use mame for whatever you are trying to accomplish.

Best use Mame debugger , that’s my suggestion also.

Ive already done it in mame. The entire point of what im trying to do is to run it with a real neo geo, not mame. I dont care how complicated or rediculous it sounds, just want the hardware to do it.

So I actually built rhe stupid parallel.port cable. It passes the "cable tests" in the unibios and the pc side. However the peek/poke functions on the pc program just timeout. Or at least the peek does. The poke sometimes doesnt timeout but still doesnt seem to actually the value to memory.

Im running the pc software on an old win98 machine since apparently parallel ports that try to use 0x378 aren't a thing in windows 11. Im also using a neo geo aes rather than mvs for the neo side.

Any ideas on what would cause these timeouts? I guess i really need someone who has used this before lol. Good luck i guess.
