I've been working on a few PCB enclosures for some friends recently and I'm seeing if there is interest to make more.

The first lot I've been making were designed to be fairly low key with uniform features across the set. I chose a mid grey tint cast acrylic which I think works really well. Here's a few pictures:

I have additional photos of the above boards in a gallery [here].

These particular ones have grey cast acrylic, rubber feet, knurled stainless M3 risers, rubber washers either side of the PCB for isolation, anodised black tapered pillars, anodised black cup washers and black button head bolts. I've added an engraved tag in matte black mounts to the end of the enclosure with the game name for easy identification. I've also added the developer and year of release. The bottom acrylic piece has been relieved to give extra clearance for connecting the JAMMA harness and where appliciable there are cutouts for the audio amp and access for the volume pot.

Using side panels also adds other possibilities:

Another friend has asked me to make some enclosures for his CV1000 boards but using coloured tinted acrylic. Before committing to cutting the full size panels I made samples for him:

These are similar to the previous ones but have coloured acrylic, matching coloured anodised pillars and cup washers, silver bolts and clear tag mounts. The MMP example is actually 'pink' according to the catalogue but in real life it's very orange... I'm sourcing an alternative for this at the moment. I engraved my logo onto the underside of these for testing.

Example Prices:

I've listed example pricing for three board sizes below.

Small (CV100)
Clear: £52
Grey TInt: £55
Colour Tint: £56

Medium (Armed Police Batrider)
Clear: £61
Grey TInt: £64
Colour Tint: £65

Large (Esprade)
Clear: £65
Grey TInt: £68
Colour Tint: £71

The actual price will depend on the board dimensions. The prices include the enclosure and the label tag. Other side panels can be added at additional cost.

Shipping:
Shipping prices to follow.

I've currently made enclosures for the boards you can see in the group shot above. I have a fair few other boards here to make enclosures for and I have other ones coming. I'm happy to work with you on other boards to get other enclosures developed,

Thanks as always

These look awesome! I am on Team Enclosure* and will gladly snap these up.

I'm interested in:
  • ESPrade
  • ESPgaluda 1 - Kinda hard to see with the gloss, but I think I see that in the lineup!
  • Armed Police Batrider - BTW I think Garegga and Bakraid have the same dimensions, but I'd need to measure to be sure
The CV1000 cases look great, but I'm holding out for Plasticfactory's licensed cases. Hopefully everything settles down for him soon.

I’ll take about a dozen!

Great collection so far, a real connoisseur’s collection!

We should get together to discuss…

Interested in an ESP.Ra.De enclosure in grey.

Bonus points if you make one for a Gaplus.

I love them! But, I prefer if the top sits even lower, maybe to the point that the heat sink is flush with the top plexiglass. Is that possible?

Goooooooo TEam! :D

Okay, great. I'll post a link to the order form at the bottom of this post and in the OP.

@plasticfactory 's cases are a thing of beauty and I know a lot of people are looking forward to them. If I still had CV1000 boards I would be waiting too :)

So sick @FrancoB

Beautiful work as always.

Thanks man!

You almost sound biased :D Thanks for the lend buddy

I'm interested in a couple CV1000 + esprade enclosures!

Sure, they'll be a link below and in the OP. Thanks!

Sure thing, I'm happy to work with others to get additional boards developed and have a few ideas to make it as easy as possible. Kindly fill in your details on the form and we can go from there.

Thanks man.

On the boards with the taller heatsinks the they are flush, or as close as flush as possible to the top surface:

On boards with smaller heatsinks such as Espgaluda below:

It could be possible to reduce the height a little as long as there are no other taller caps etc on the board. Reducing the height would also mean a shorter label tag for the board and I wanted to keep these ones uniform where I could. I'm happy to work with you on custom heights, if and where possible, if required.

Really nice work. I love those standoffs. Kudos to you releasing these after doing all the R&D first. Are they designed to mount in a cab as well or primarily used as display pieces? @FrancoB are you old enough to remember Blake’s 7? These cases took me back to the computer “Orac” on that show 🙂

Thanks for filling the form in. I'll leave it running until the end of the week and then order materials for what's currently on there. There are some fun colour etc requests on there, I hope people share pictures once installed

I'll be in touch with everyone before I do order just to confirm/check everything.

Thanks man. I know if Blakes 7 but it is a little before my time (looks like it was aired in '78, I'm of '82 vintage). I just watched part of an episode with Orac in it and I see why you thought that ^^.

I know the above dark enclosures are going to a friend primarily to use in a 'hifi stack' and for use with his supergun. The coloured ones will be going to another friend to use with his superguns and in his cabs too.

The enclosures have flat sides and so could be stood on their sides in the bottom of the cab. If you didn't want them directly on the floor then I could make stands similar to the Wii/PS2 vertical stands.

A long time before I had a laser I made an enclosure for a MAME PC and added lugs to hang the enclosure from the PCB board:

I used to hang my PCBs this way too but with the wire going through the PCB feet. It made it really quick to swap out PCBs. I have actually been thinking about a similar optional 'add on' to these cases.... I'll share some pictures once I have something mocked up.

Would you be willing to do some custom jobs if the files are provided?

Custom jobs are fun jobs ^^ I'm more than happy to take a look. Feel free to PM over some details

It needs a lot of further refinement but something along these lines could work.

I don't really want to add fixed tabs to the enclosures but I thought I could add some tabs/mounts that could rotate out of the way when not in use, or be removed from the enclosure completely. They would then fit/hook onto some printed mounts that you attach to the plywood etc board.

The front mount would be fixed but the rear mount would want to be on an adjustable slide to take into account different board lengths. The hook geometry etc is not optimum at all but you get the idea.

Thanks for the quick reply and demo. I agree that fixed tabs are not the go and would take away from the mice uniform design. The hanger idea you have is a good one - if you can get the screw in rubber feet thread to be long enough. Then you might need spacers in the bottom rubber feet so the board hangs plumb? I use @NFGx Ezi Swap PCB holders in my cabs and have just seen that he has a plexi option as well that I could order some parts. https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/pcb-ez-swap-holder-kits.33101/
I’ll order a Cave one for now and see how you go down the track with board mounting ideas.

Great jobs!!
But Is it possible to surround them from all sides?
I know it will increase costs, but is it technically feasible?
Thanks

I read this and thought about it for a moment then realized that might not be a super great idea you kinda want them to be exposed to ambient air for cooling reasons instead of becoming an oven box.

Haha, I might have obsessive-compulsive perfectionism, :-) but without a surround enclosure, too much dust will get into the PCB. It would be great if there were a solution similar to CPS2 or F3 that could add a fan.

with 3d printing and cutting anything is possible. You could cut some vents and add a fan haha

For sure, it wouldn't be a million miles away from the [MiSTer Ironclad case] I made. That actually used the same tinted grey acrylic and had vented side panels with a fan.

It wouldn't work with this particular product line though and would need developing. I've got a fair few other things lined up to work on first though ^^
