Hi,

While trying to fix my other MS8-26, I got a spare one, just in case.
It arrived today, but before testing it I noticed that the plastic at the top holding it to the metal heatsink is broken. I've read numerous times that cracked flybacks are a no-no and can be dangerous.

Obviously, it was broken before and glued together (visible glue residue) and that "repair" didn't survive the transport.

Any thoughts? Is it safe to use after gluing it back together?

I've had this happen before, filled and covered it in a thick layer of black epoxy and ran it.
for safety I wouldn't run it without re-sealing it, as arcing can occur through exposed cracks.
"glue" isn't enough, you need to seal it.

Whether or not this will work depends on the design of the flyback and where the crack occurs; it can kill or shorten the lifespan of the flyback,

I doubt it's going to arc. The white stuff underneath is the potting compound. The black outer casing has cracked where the screw mount has pulled off. Common enough issue.

Just glue it back on if you want.

Check the solder joints and that there are no cracks in the PCB.

H! :)

Clean old glue and use Araldite

I used it almost 20 years ago to seal the convergence rings, so much so that I was afraid to move it when cleaning. It was my first time in the Arcade world, and I was scared back then!

The Araldite never moved or crumbled. You can therefore add RTV silicone to prevent arcing, just in case.
