So I've spent the past while digging into Victory Furlong (NSKeiba). Previously, it was unplayable for three reasons: 1) It needs a touch screen, 2) it needs a card reader attached, 3) it needs AWNet online (not strictly true, you can play offline mode but lose functionality). I don't think anyone had tried this before, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

It's in a very basic state now, but I wrote some emulators and I've got it playable. For the issues above:
  1. TouchScreen - The NET@SELECT cabinet uses a standard 15" VGA screen with a serial touch panel overlay. The touchscreen is RS232 and connects to the SRL DB9 port on the motherboard. It's speaking standard SmartSet touch protocol.
  2. Card reader - AW games use the same model card reader across all games. The difference with NET@SELECT games (VF & Salaryman Kintaro) is that since the touch panel is connected to DB9, the card reader needs to connect to CN3 (it connects to the DB9 on all non-NS games). The card readers are RS232 and get converted to 3.3V UART. You can play the game without a card inserted, so to pass this check you just need the reader to perform the initial handshake and remain present. In the cabinet, it uses the JAMMA edge TILT connection to trigger a card insertion event. I'm still working on full AWNet card emulation.
  3. AWNet - As long as the reader and touchscreen are attached you can still play offline. I had an old project where I tried reimplementing a high-score saving server for KOFNW. Most of that work carried over to VF. I have very basic functionality which, at the moment, is enough to get online. Net games are a WIP.

This video was captured from an Atomiswave motherboard running an authentic Victory Furlong cart and hooked up with an Atomiswave network adapter. The AWNet server, card reader, and touchscreen emulators are all being ran from a PC. Pardon the shaky potato quality and no audio.
