Hey guys,

I love those arcade rail gun shooters with a huge gun turret: Alien 3, Terminator, Gunblade, L.A Machinegun, Ocean Hunter etc etc !

The bad thing is those games are hardly playable at home without the dedicated cabinet; and those big guns can are either too expensive to get, or simply too big for a Sega candy cab.

I often ran accross these guns for Medal Gunman, that seem small enough to be mounted on a panel. But these are revolvers looking and would not really feel like a machinegun.

But I've been look on Aliexpress, and I've found those machineguns type that seem they would fit on a NNC panel, according to the dimensions I've found, and the mechanical parts are already hidden in a plastic cover they seem fairly easy to mount, according to the available pictures I've found:

OK so I am decided to build this panel with this type of gun, so I have ordered a pair from this seller:

The seller was very helpful with Whatsapp, but unfortunately, the version he sells does not work with potentiometers but with some regular on/off switches, which of course makes them useless to me. Fortunately, I have been able to cancel the order and get a refund.

The seller informed me that, due to some regulations, the guns had to be shipped in several packages (probably gun safety etc), so I would have to reassemble it at home. He sent me instructions and that's how I saw there are no pots, but unexpectedly, the gun features a +12V solenoid.

The dimensions of the gun seem to be ok with the above picture. Overall length around 35cm, with the rotation axis around the middle, this should be OK for a New Net City panel.

Still trying to find a reseller for a gun that works with actual potentiometers...

Did the seller send pictures of the base disassembled? Where are you seeing that there aren't any pots?

The seller sent this picture, which shows the potentiometer, which I already saw on Ali and made me believe all these guns have pots.

But he sent me a video of the actual guns being assembled as a tutorial for when I would have to reassemble them at home, and that's where I spotted there were switches and not pots in the base.

I asked and he confirmed that most of these guns sold on Ali have switches instead of pots, and it is just a presentation picture.

It seems that the gun is not equipped with pots nor mechanical switches, but with some optical sensors.
I have no idea if there are any way to interface that on PC, maybe as a mouse, but what about 2 players ? Any ideas anyone ?

Another way to work this around would be to find a way to have pots fit in the base, as I assume the design must not be that different.

But for exemple, the gears present on the base to activate the X axis pot are not present on this optical switch version

This project seems more complicated than anticipated. Kinda bums me out. And I don't seem to find some alternatives on Ali, and this experience makes you question the liability of everything sold there.

Another way would be to fully DIY the whole thing, like I've seen some people do with some NERF guns:
