If there's confirmation that it'll work with the boots out there, I will be interested.

I think this is pretty much the show stopper for most people.

Sacrificing an original CV1000D sounds crazy. But even the boot prices aren't in no way "cheap".

I guess ultimately, it'll come down to the cost of the donor board, the cost of this board and how confident one is to complete the install themselves. I like to think I'm adept at soldering, but not seeing how the install of this will work on a board, I can't say 100% if i'd be confident in installing this myself.

I'd be in but I still need a boot donor and I've been waiting to make sure everything plays nice before doing that/know what needs modifying.

Ive been developing this on a bootleg, so take that as you will.
Also please keep in mind that this is not a interest check thread and will do a survey later :D but I appreciate the support so far.
Update: Still chasing signal integrity issues that cause stability problems with all 16 chips being installed, but i should be able to sort it out soon :)

There is pretty much zero reason it wouldn't work with the Link boots. They're basically 1:1 reproductions aside from some very minor differences.

Please consider not using original PCBs for this - it isn't necessary, and Link's boots are like half the price of a real board.

Good news :) with the help of my new scope, I managed to hack some stuff together on my current proto and it seems i have fixed the stability issues i was having with more chips installed. Everything Ive tested appears to run flawlessly now. No longer seeing any corruption with the graphics.

I have a revised pcb on the way and will be doing some more testing next week :)

Beautiful work Kasaski.

It's really nice to see this progress, and hopefully it will finish up into something that will truly shine, and help a whole lot of people!!!

Latest rivison PCB assembled and tested. So far looking good! everything is coming together :). Once I work out a nice way to showcase the project I'll film it in action soon.

However, I'm still not done yet! After going back and fourth on the idea for quite some time I've decided that without a multi RTC/EEPROM solution this project is incomplete due to following being reset when changing games:
- DIP settings (freeplay, demo sound, Screen pos/brightness, etc)
- High scores
- And most importantly: unlocks. A few CV1k games required some sort of criteria to be met (usually just a string of button inputs) to unlock an extra difficulty, stage or character. If you're someone who enjoys deathsmiles this could be quite annoying.

While none of this is really a huge deal, it seems unpolished to not have a solution for this. So, I've created and ordered yet another daughter board which will house 16 RTC/EEPROM chips. Unfortunately this chip is no longer produced so sourcing may unreliable and/or expensive. If anyone knows of a suitable modern replacement please let me know, i haven't had much luck searching around myself. Id much rather use something that can be sourced from mouser/digikey.
