Hello everyone,

I'm very new to arcade hobby and fixing things.

I bought faulty (must start somewhere right?) Raiden 2 pcb.

Problem : Graphics are distorted. Some numbers shown. Some text's are corrupted or wrong.
What is working : Game playable, coins up, starts, all controllers works well. Sound Good.

First; i was testing the system with my 9" Sony CRT PVM using supergun + SCART RGB (my test bench)

There was a sync issue. Then i tried with my play system (custom made supergun + 20" Sony crt PVM RGB)
And there was no sync issues. Only graphic problems.

Then i have found out that on my play test system 5V rail is 4.98V but my test bench 5V rail is 4.82V. When i adjust it to 5V sync issue resolved.

Okay so far what i have done listed; open to any suggestions.

1-) removed Roms 1-2-5-6-7 . I was able to read 5-6-7 but couldnt read 1-2. Because i don't know which type of roms they are. They are labeled ZR240p-2. I tried with 27c240 but when i present it to romident website it says

Dark Horse (bootleg of Jockey Club II)gfx7gfx1300000
pangofunPango Fun (Italy)bank2.u13game_prg300001
pangofunPango Fun (Italy)

Any suggestions hw to read 1 and 2?
5-6-7 was fine. Cleaned contacts slots and reseated them back.

2-) I've applied force to the pins of SEI360, SEI252 and SEI1000 to see if any pins not connected. But all were ok.

3-) While system works i have applied force with my finger to all chips one by one. Nothing changed on screen.

4-) I've test every chip for 5V rail. All ok.

5-) I've piggybacked all 74LS245N chips. nothing changed (2 of them makes graphics worse, maybe my chips are bad)

6-) Checked all chips for any overheating. None detected.

7-) I thought maybe ram chips are broken. on U067 and U0611 (CY7C85-35PC). and piggybacked them with whatever i have (same pinout and same sizes sram) --> MT5C6408. nothing changed.

What can i do more?

I have a logic probe and know how to attach it but i don't know what to look for :) It is elenco branded.

Regarding reading rom 1/2. You can check the Raiden 2 Driver in Mame.

"Later boards
1 - 27C402 or 27C4096 EPROM labelled 'SEIBU 1' at location U0211 (DIP40)
2 - 27C402 or 27C4096 EPROM labelled 'SEIBU 2' at location U0212 (DIP40)"

Thanks @Pythagoras I was able to determine 1 and 2 roms. 27C4096 did the trick.

I think this is the same exact pcb i bought. seller claimed it was working. Got it, and it had this exact issue. Promptly returned it. Then he relisted it as non working.

Thanks for the info, i bought it as "it has graphics glitches".

Did you try anything other than checking roms.

I tried a few non invasive methods, then realized id be removing chips and asked for my money back. Then again I bought it as “working” so it was a different scenario.

So instead of doing deep troubleshooting I returned it. Ive been bit by that my last two boards.

All of the customs appeared intact leg wise. I think youre gonna be busting out the logic probe
