Something I didn't notice, there's really hard to see printing on it.

I did see this looks exactly like the eBay sold listings for the gold dongle.

I thought I read somewhere 1.38D did not require a dongle but maybe I'm wrong.
Every software I've tried to load has required either one or two dongles.

it's possible, I've seen a video of a unit running that version without a USB dongle. However I don't have a disc for that version to confirm.... The disc image I've found online for it was actually v1.34U and mislabeled as 1.38D

if you do find a legit 1.38D image let me know

So I just picked up my machine today. There is only the LPT dongle and it is Gold already. (Unless the USB is plugged in somewhere other than the rear of the PC) I'm beat from moving it and making room around all my other machines. If you let me know what info / photos you'd like I would be happy to get them together later this week.

very interesting!

Please take a picture of the "build version" screen, this should appear for a few seconds during boot, or in the test menu.

if you can confirm the model number of your mobo and if it has a graphics card what the model number of the card is, that would be really helpful also!

thanks!

Alright...you got me...I'm sitting on two pcbs, both working i believe, and several install discs.

As I can over the next week, I'll gather everything up, take photos, power up, and see what I can share.

I just put my kids to bed and fired it up quick to grab a screen shot. I will grab a better photo too.Pretty sure it's a Linux build but maybe that's already apparent. I was just watching what I saw as things booted. It's an ASRock MoBo. I'll look at the rest after I finish repairing my Midnight Maximum Tune machine

oh wow... so that kind of confirms that there are different dongles becuase I'm running the same revision and it refuses to boot without both the USB and the LPT dongles attached.

I'm going to guess it's an ASRock MB-N68CS or an ASRock N68C-GS FX with no GPU

I'll pull the cabinet from the wall and double check again. I'll get some dongle pictures too, see if there's anything telling on it.

For games needing only the parallel dongle, are they similar to those used by the VP50/VP100/VP101 platforms?
If so it should be possible to handcraft some security compliant PICs.

I don't know what those platforms are, nor any details about the inner workings of the security so I can't say.

I have a cab, just need to fix the monitor. I’ve done some screwing with this. It be gotten it to mostly run on newer hardware but still getting some random issues. I’ll update if anyone is interested . This has is updated using faf os . Seems to be close . Also emulated the dongles if it works correctly. Sometimes it fails to start . This is windows version. https://mega.nz/file/xtBEgIhB#F4EHx2_MihwSeKuDqgtc1IfSu-KbbVZJZJeHmMENvqM Try and report back if you want.
