TL;DR raised a Paypal chargeback ~ 2 months after purchase with no communication.

I had four Neo Geo MVS Fusion adapters for sale here: https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/furrtek-neo-geo-fusion-converters.37165/

All four were sold quickly and I shipped all of them on the same day, (April 24th), and sent a photo of the packages along with the tracking number to each respective buyer. Two of them shipped within the UK, one went to Germany and the last one went to the US, to the member in question. The last communication I had was a "thumbs up" like reaction on my reply with the package information.

Some days pass and I get replies from the other buyers that their package has been received so I check the US-bound package; it was successfully delivered on May 4th. I don't hear anything so I assume the tracking is accurate and think no more of it.

A couple of days ago on June 29th I received a reminder notification on my phone from Paypal that I had an outstanding case open, and yes, turns out on June 22nd a refund/chargeback case was opened for "an unauthorised transaction" which is a bit weird considering someone has to willingly send me the money, it's not like I can charge their credit card. I submitted the tracking information and the forum conversation to Paypal and they have denied the refund.

If there's an innocent explanation for this or it's some sort of Paypal test then I'm happy to be corrected and retract this but it feels weird there's no communication then a chargeback out of the blue pretty much 2 months to the day after payment was received. That feels like waiting for some sort of statutory period to expire.

Damn that sucks man :(

Seems scammy to me given the timing. If there was an issue with delivery, he should have messaged before opening a case.

I’d give PayPal a call and explain to them the situation; they can most likely see if there’s a pattern of similar behaviour on his account, or give you some leniency, etc.

@kazuo please explain.

From my side there's nothing to do, Paypal have refused the refund. I believe the case is still open at a Paypal level but they've said there's nothing further needed from me.

The forum conversation I forwarded literally went "I would like to buy the thing you're selling", "Ok, the thing plus shipping is £X", "Great, I'll send that payment", "Payment received, here's the shipping info for the thing you wanted to buy", and then proof of delivery. How you can argue that was an unauthorised transaction is beyond me.

I have recent experience of parcel tracking being misleading; I had tracking that said delivery was attempted, yet it turned out it had never made it through customs and was being returned to the sender. But I was in contact with the seller the whole time so it was resolved in the end.

It's not like someone joined the forum recently to do this; they've been a member since 2015 with positive feedback and there were no red flags at the time so I want to believe there's an innocent explanation for this and hopefully they're not in a bad place, but I'd feel bad if someone else posted a similar experience and I hadn't said anything.

Try to call someone at paypal personally. Had a huge issue once and the bot wouldn't refund until I got someone from Paypal on the phone.

Reporting to PayPal on a forum sale is scummy for sure.

Did you know that shit can potentially close down a person's PayPal account? More likely so in today's age with false positives done by AI.

I always had the impression @kazuo was a good member. He hasn't connected here in 2 months. I'm thinking something serious happened in his life. :(

Note to others: if I suddenly stop communication then definitely something bad happened to me so please contact @Darksoft or @Mitsurugi-w before tarnishing my rep.

Agreed. He is been on this forum for the longest time. He is not gona runaway with 2 fuzion adapters worth of money, doesnt make sense. Provided he has not connected here for 2 months as well, mostly likely something in his personal life is going on. I hope he is alright and once he is back, can sort things out for himself.

I saw a situation two months ago where an an invoiced payment was refunded to the buyer. the reason given in an email from PayPal was "You are not a verified PayPal member." When the guy called PayPal for answers they would only confirm that the payment was returned but not that it was an action on the buyer's part. The guy ended up just paying him again but not before the torches came out. Not saying thats what's happening here but seems possible.

Also guy claimed the account was in use for years, adding to his confusion why this particular transaction was refunded. I think PayPal is slipping.

First, just want to apologize profusely to @bodgit for the hassle here. Wasn't my intent to try and rugpull him over this - long story short, PayPal did something extremely weird and processed the payment through a company called "Bitstamp" which I have never seen before and was extremely unusual, and when I first Googled it, I didn't immediately see a connection with PayPal, saw "crypto", and immediately went "ugh someone got my card info" and charged it back through my card issuer. It wasn't until PayPal contacted me about a chargeback several weeks later that I put two and two together about what had happened. Totally my mistake, I immediately told PayPal to cancel the transaction and I called the bank to let them know what happened. I explained this in a little more detail to Bodgit via PM and I just re-sent him the payment.

With that hopefully settled, I want to say thanks to all who shared kind words and concern, and to those who put in a good word for me when they didn't have to. I haven't been active on the forum recently for personal reasons, and to a lesser extent the fact that I keep running into constant Cloudflare/522 errors trying to access the site. This also made me realize I am not getting forum email notifications either, or else I would've probably gotten a notification about Bodgit's PM asking what was happening. I should've probably dropped him an email in the meantime once I got the PayPal email but it didn't occur to me to check the PayPal history for a variety of reasons, which was a miss on my part. I should've updated him as soon as PayPal contacted me about this, but I wrongly assumed that smashing the cancel button and calling the bank would've gotten it all sorted out.

kazuo needs to ackchyually explain himself here stat.

@GoldenGlover, is there a reason you're replying here with this mocking/condescending "ackchyually" stuff? It's not helpful and super immature. If you have some kind of issue with me that you need to hash out, send me a PM. It's behavior like this that turns people off from being active in these communities.

Ditto. Please know the same if I suddenly stop.
I can also vouch for paypal does weird things sometimes.
Glad this got resolved.

@bodgit, if it's not much to ask, could you reflect the positive understanding between the parties in the title please?
If both are happy with the outcome, something quick and easy to read effectively — just in the title ( then, folks can dive deeper by reading the detailed content regarding what was the problem about that has now been resolved )

It may be a bit confusing right now and possibly interpreted or misleading towards a bad reputation for Kazuo.
