I'm trying to scrape together a working magic sword, I have a working C board, A board, and a 90629 B Board. I have burned ROMs and PALs, (burned mask rom gfx to 27c400s, and placed 1,5,3,7 in sockets 1,2,3,4 respectively, burned MS24B on GAL) and I am still getting gfx issues. Due to the differences in B Board, does something else need to be changed in the PAL? Or do I need to re order the GFX roms somehow?

The MS24B won't work with that b-board, you'll have to hand-craft the pal as no official msword set exists for that b-board.

Thanks, yeah I was afraid of that. Is there any documentation out there on how to do that? Is it on par with the romhacks to make program roms work with other c boards or more complicated?

It's basically take the mapper data from mame, convert to equations, reconfigure pins depending on what type the target b-board is, compile to a jed with ancient pal software, then burn. not really complicated but I guess steep learning curve if all that is new to you. not aware of any guide anywhere.
I will have a go for you, give me few hours, haven't done one for a while could do with refreshing my memory ;)

try this: View attachment msword_90629.zip

I think your rom positioning is correct but you might have to experiment.

NEVER put 27c400's in the bottom twelve sockets, they take 27c4096 chips which are a different pinout.
your chips will most likely be killed instantly if you do.
I once had a SF2 where the previous owner had done that and all 12 chips where dead :(

Hey thanks man, that worked! Everything looks good, except I noticed when the words free play flash to disappear, a white box is still present. Any ideas?

I just checked my work again and I can't see any obvious mistake. I do have both an original msword and a spare 90629, I guess I could swap over the roms and burn a pal, see if I get the same issue. I'll let you know hopefully in a few days time.

So i've tested the pal, swapped over my msword roms onto the spare 90629, can confirm it's good, game is working completely as normal. So where you go from here with that ruled out, I guess it's just usual fault finding, verify your roms, visual checks, check socket pins etc. etc. might be worth ruling out the a-board if you have another handy. If you have and want to try another non-B13 c-board, there's a guy over on ukvacs provides a utility to patch the roms to work on any c-board. msword is one of the games supported. Good luck!

Thanks for confirming! I’ve swapped A board and B board and problem remains, must be my c board, but I guess I can live with it. Thanks again!
