So i collect Lindbergh games, and i'm still missing a number of the more rare and exotic ones. Cosmic Challenge was one of the games i really wanted to get my hands on but haven't managed to get the game or restore media for yet.

It's part of the Club Majesty series, basically shitty gambling games, but I'm a completest so i like to catch them all... if y'know what i mean.

I managed to track down 3/6 of the other Club Majesty series on YHJ, and there's restore media available for 2 of the other 6, but Cosmic Smash was so far missing.

Browsing YHJ recently, i see this pop up. Can't see the dongle, so don't know the game, but it has a piece of tape on it, which AI was having a difficult time with but it did manage to translate the word challenge...so i knew what it was as soon as i saw that... Then i looked at the Japanese title for Cosmic Challenge and it was clear that that's what the tape at least said.

Now, the next problem was, one of the listing pictures. this thing looked rough... as in, "I've been sitting outside in the rain for a long time" rough....

So I have to taper my expectations here, how much will i bid, there's a very high chance the HDD inside is going to be toast, along with everything else. Is the game even going to be cosmic challenge.... Will i buy it and have to throw the whole thing out and get nothing working? Will the HDD even be inside still ( i recently purchased another 2 rare games, only to have them arrive with no HDD :( )

Anyways, so i did buy it.. 17000jpy.

It arrived today, first thing i had to drill half the screws because the heads just stripped out straight away, which wasn't a good sign, i opened it up to find this.... It's rough... Has obviously been sitting out in the weather for a while. The HDD WAS inside it , and i was hopeful that it sits above the level that water will accumulate on the bottom so it survived and could be recovered.

Surpisingly, the HDD actually looked OK, so i was really hopeful that it was going to work still.

Keychip as good as new in there

Traditional soft pad on the underside of the lindy lid that always melts and is basically impossible to get off once it oozes down the gpu and io card all into your pci slot and over the motherboard. FIRST THING YOU DO WHEN YOU GET A LINDY IS REMOVE IT. PUT ON A PLASTIC GLOVE AND JUST PEEL IT OFF, COMES OFF IN 1 PIECE.

Seems it was on an angle and water pooled into this corner perhaps. RIP spder

Anyways, to cut the censored part of this post short... due to forum rules, (and a new post because i hit 10 pictures) i plugged the HDD, the CF and the dongle into a working lindbergh unit.... and.....

Colour me sideways it works! Massive win i would say! The CPU/GPU/ram on the old unit should be ok for saving, i will keep those, but otherwise everything looks rather corroded, rusted or has that sticky, impossible to remove goo on it. So i will just bin the leftovers. Yes, IO error, but otherwise working game.
