I just got an SNK Candy 26 and am going to do a little work on it. It’s in really great condition (I think). KC just delivered it to me yesterday and it’s super clean and works great.

My only other arcade cab is a turn key NAOMI Universal cab. They only work I really did in that was swap out a 1L6B CP for a 2L6B CP, made even easier because the 2player loom was already there.

On the Candy 26, I need to:
Swap current ungrounded power cable for a grounded one (the whole metal body is hot when it’s plugged in)
Add locks
Add US quarter coin mech
Change the CP
Add 2nd player joystick and buttons
Add a kick harness
Replace/fix the bezel (has a crack)
Replace the marquee (it’s dirty and the bottom is splintering)

OK - so I’ve got a little snag right off the bat. I swapped the quarter coin mech out of my Naomi into the Candy 26 and the coin chute isn’t big enough to let a quarter fit through! Is this a part I can replace, or do i need to revert to tokens or get actual Yen if I want to use coins?

UPDATE - found a 100 and 50 yen coin and neither fit into the chute. Would love some help on what I can do to get this cab to accept coins.

Need help identifying what kind of cable connector I need to wire up a second set of controls. The only other connectors I have reference for is the Naomi. Here’s a photo of me holding the one I need identified next to a Sega harness for scale.

UPDATE: This info is not correct for his connector but leaving it up for anyone needing it

This connector series is directly compatible with Molex MLX contacts.

TE Female contact: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/350550-1/29323
TE Male contact (split pin): https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/350705-1/29321
TE Male contact (non split): https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/350547-1/213765

Cheaper Molex Female: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/molex/0002081004/3071401
Cheaper Molex male: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/molex/0002082004/133294

Cheapest genuine crimp tool will be a used TE 90296-2:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/224839415251
https://www.ebay.com/itm/254861073478

EDIT: Note that unlike more modern connectors used in cabs, the smallest compatible wire gauge is 20, keep that in mind if building harnesses.

Disregard the above, didn't realize it was Mini Universal Mate-N-Lok

Correct Female contact 16-20 AWG: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/171639-1/298765
Correct male contact 16-20 AWG:

Correct Female contact 18-22AWG: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/170366-1/298796
Correct Male contact 18-22AWG: https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/170364-1/298843

You want the 18-22 for your purpose.

EDIT: @Yubm12 I just corrected the 18-22 links with the correct parts. Female contact is 170366-1 and Male contact is 170364-1

That JST mention had me take a second look, seems like the JST one has different square/rounded sections:

But it looks like the TE one I linked is also different in that regard:

It certainly seems like part of this general family, but not sure what it exactly is yet.

Man, this is driving me nuts now. Whatever it is I don't think it is currently in production, I've checked every 12 conductor 3 row housing out there and nothing matches that. Can you post the male end @Yubm12 ?

Sure. Assuming we figure out what this connector is, how hard is it to wire up?

Is chopping it and replacing the connectors with comparable molex/JST connectors an option?

Yea. I was just going to ask if I can replace the harness with a more modern one since this is proving to be hard to identify, it might be equally hard to source. I want to add a kick harness anyways

Wow, that has to be long out of production. I would chop and replace with something like AMP UP or the above mentioned Mate-N-Lok/MLX or Mini Mate-N-Lok.

For both my blast and vewlix I’ve used this: https://www.arcaderenovations.com/slug-acceptor-any-coin-token-mech.html

Swap out the coin mech and align. For the blast, i have to have it tilted a bit. For the vew, I had to file the bottom opening a couple extra mm. There are usually ways to mod the mech itself but this is cheap, easy, and works. I don’t know this cab but there’s a good chance it will work. There are other versions out there too.

Edit: just realized your problem might be the limits of the top acceptor, maybe measure and find tokens that fit? The Sega repros are small, I can measure if you’d like.

The coin mech itself would be fine. I swapped one i know to work with quarters and the quarter gets stuck. i don't know the proper name of the part, but the coin gets stuck in the chute where it should pass the wire and trigger the credit. The wire moves down, but the chute isn't tall enough to let a coin through. I have to back the coin out by manually pulling the wire back up.

Ah ok the very bottom usually, last step in the line? I’m not sure how the mech on the 26 works, the universal slug acceptor I linked to works great but if the part you are taking about isn’t wide enough, not sure what to do. The Sega tokens I mentioned are pretty much exactly an inch.
