I've been enjoying @Ziggy Cheetos Dust Aero City thread, so I thought i'd put up a similar project i'm working on. I've posted this elsewhere so apologies for the duplication.

My U4 spent some of it's working life in Japan at the Yoshia Family Residence amusement park. However since then it's certainly fallen on hard times, I picked this up from an ex-importer in the UK last September.

Details:
SNK MVS U4 Serial number: 71025
Tube: Toshiba A59JMZ90X
Chassis: TOEI TC A252S (serial 05080)
Number of plays 44K

The good
- The main body is in generally good condition apart from the dents
- The smoked glass has a single scratch on it, but other than that it's good
- The monitor has some light KOF burn but not too bad, even less visible with the smoked glass
- Loom for the memory card reader and credit board are present
- Chassis is filthy but looks ok at first inspection
- Other than the stepdown the cabinet has been left unmolested, no holes drilled for locks etc.
- The speakers haven’t rotted, they look fine

The not so good
- No keys
- No 4 Slot MVS (which I did know)
- Control panel, sticks and buttons are junk
- Power cable is almost split right though
- Rubber foot plate is rotten
- Monitor and chassis are absolutely filthy
- Someone has jammed a screwdriver into the front door to open it :(
- Aftermarket stepdown fitted

Teardown:

Memory and credit boards both cleaned but have lots of corroded / damaged traces

Monitor:
Not much to say here, caked in filthy back dust.

Discharged the tube in order to send the chassis off for investigation / repair. more on that later.

Teardown cont.

Starting to pull everything out of the cab, very dirty work. You can hopefully see how black the interior of the cab is

Finally managed to get the control panel shelf off which was totally seized.

Thanks to my neighbour, I gave the U4 a good powerwash.. good start but it didn't come close to getting it clean.

I had to scrub away with the simple green and finally got it looking reasonable.

Thanks for sharing the journey. The filthiest machines are the most rewarding. I haven’t seen one of these restored before so will follow with interest. 🤓

A couple of minor updates..

Firstly i've spent a the last couple of days very carefully cleaning the tube and it's looking much better. Still needs a going over with some air to clean out all the dust.

I also got lucky and the chassis was able to be repaired, also looking much better

Lastly the original PSU was also recapped (you might not be able to tell from the picture :D )
