What's new

So whats next on the list of multis?

I too wouldnt mind a system 11.
I do wonder if 11 games could be patched to work on a 12 though.
They look similar enough.

yes I think a PCB in between the the flash ROMs removed is likely the way to go, but that doesn't fix the sound ROM sadly.
I think Sys 11 also has the keycus on the main board too.
You can write the main CPU flashes from the connector for the CPU board, Vpp is even generated by the board.
And actually there's a way for the sound ROM, with a two step approach:
- you first download a program to the CPU flashes that writes the sound flash
- you write the CPU flashes with the game code

- you first download a program to the CPU flashes that writes the sound flash
is the sound ROM a flash on System 12? I know it is on System 11 but I thought it was a normal ROM on Sys12
very cool that it can be written from program. though I'd be worried the write cycles on those mobo flashes isn't super high.

I don't know for System 12 nor if my findings can be generalised to all System 11 boards but on mine it's definitely a flash.
Need to check datasheet, I guess we should have around 1000 writes.

The SMD soldering situation for a potential System 11 Multi reminds me of the Psikyo Multi and the upcoming CV1000 Multi. Sure, desoldering the existing SMD ROMs and attaching something else is a challenge but it's workable for folks with the tools and skills. Installation services could be made available for the folks that need it.

Personally, I would love to see a Hyper Neo Geo 64 multicart. The game boards are so rare and expensive, it would be worth it for and Buriki One and Samurai Shodown 64 alone.
it's on my list to look at at some point, not near the top of the list, but it's on it :P

I'm thinking a solution similar to the M92 multi could work with the multi sandwitched between the bottom and CPU boards :
- main CPU flashes could stay in place but not used
- the KeyCus being socketed the multi board could plug into it (some KeyCuses have been reversed already)
- the multi would also plug on the extra "romboard" connector, PLD for banking has been reversed (https://wiki.pldarchive.co.uk/index.php?title=Kosodate_Quiz:_My_Angel_3)
- the only part that will require soldering is around the sound flash, good thing is the pitch is more hobbyist friendly than the CPU flashes

I'd be sooooooo down for a Namco System 11/12 Multi. Not afraid of a little SMD work either. Did that for my Psikyo multi, and I know for sure there are people on the Psikyo multi wait list who are not able to perform the SMD soldering requirement. There are plenty of people in the community that can help out with that.

If System 11/12 games were able to run on either hardware revisions, that would be amazing. Other than the flash chips, looking at the hardware comparison the only differences seem to be in the audio section. Same Main CPU, same Main/Video/Audio ram, same bus speeds. Just different Sound CPU's.
System 11 uses a Mitsubishi M37702 while the System 12 uses a Hitachi H8/3002.

@opt2not going by MAME's sources I don't see Point Blank 3 being listed for S11.
That's unfortunate.
I don't use Mame as a point of reference for hardware. They are hit or miss sometimes when it comes to getting hardware information. I mainly use System16 or KLOV/Arcade Museum for hardware info.

Point Blank 3 was definitely a S11 game -> manual

It shows an undumped for a system 11 title, that’s all
https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blo...cdbe60983711d/src/mame/namco/namcos11.cpp#L64

System 10 version is dumped
https://github.com/mamedev/mame/blo...cdbe60983711d/src/mame/namco/namcos10.cpp#L51

Anyway point being it’s not hit/miss here. Those other resources are not as complete as mame. Mame isn’t perfect but its job is to emulate games not just catalog them, so it’s better than KLOV or system16.

Ape just misread I guess.

Interesting, either it's a mistake in the manual (the game was initially planned for S11 and was moved to S12 at the last minute?) or the S11 version is undumped.
MAME lists it as "Not Dumped Yet (they possibly don't exist)".

Yeah probably because it's undumped that it's not showing up. Kinda shows why I don't rely on MAME for this kind of info. Their info nearly entirely dependent on whether dumps are available, not the existence of the hardware.
