[ SOLVED ] Help daimakaimura conversion B- board 90629b-2

Faster chips are fine, if the board is marked as 150ns they need to be that or better.

27C4002 is how some manufacturers labelled 27C4096. I know it's that way for ST. Use a 27C4096 profile and you will be fine.

The TOP3000 programmer does the job very well ! I write 9 of them (120ns) and 1 with 100ns (14a) because i didn't have where to source one during this period and the shipping time. working awesome !

Did you know there is level select with the dip switches depending on what board you have:

Afaik this only works on the resale version of the game.
I wonder if there’s also this feature on the resale version of Strider Hiryu...

Man - I'm trying to get this working on a 90629B-3 with some issues.

-I'm using the resale ROM set (I've tried both the merged set from MAME and a non-merged set from some rando site)
-I've tried both stock and "protection removed" program ROMs (generated from the ROM patcher on UKVAC)
-I've tried every GAL I can find online from the typical locations and from within the MAME ROM itself
-I've looked through tutorials on UKVAC and the NEO GEO forums, everyone everywhere talks about GALs being a pain in the butt
-I'm using ST M27C4002 eproms for graphics and program, with a single 27c010A for sound in socket 9. I'm using the locations that MostroVeneno mentioned for his 90629B-2 conversion.

I gotta be missing something. I'm on a short A board, 90629B-3 B board, and a 92641C-1 C board with a B-21 (one of the Lydz "generic" boards). It boots with severe graphic corruption. I know the A board is good because it successfully runs the 1941 conversion I built a couple weeks ago.

Experience tells me it's a GAL issue, but I can't find any GALs that aren't in MAME or on other sites vaguely hinted at in this thread. B-21 should be a viable donor, especially with a patched program romset. I'm using the ROM placement that @MostroVeneno laid out earlier in the thread.

I could also see it being jumpers, since the jumpers on my board appear slightly different than those in pics earlier in this thread. In both a Willow repair and the 1941 conversion, jumper settings didn't matter if the board revision is the same. I did read the article on ArcadeOtaku (I think) that laid out what a couple of these jumpers were confirmed to do. This B board was originally a King of Dragons that suicided. I patched it back to life successfully, and thought I'd try my hand at making a Daimakaimura conversion just for fun.

Since I was able to make this B board work as King of Dragons, I know the underlying board is good and working well with this A board AND this C board. My issues HAVE to be in the ROM/GAL combo.

@AlxUnderBase - you got this working on a 90629B-3, based on your video. Did you have to do anything different than what MostroVeneno stated?

i dont know to use MAME sir . I got the set from wowroms . I used 6 eeproms from my donor who was used for Cps2 multi , 3 eeproms comes from China and 1 comes from my Namco Nb1 board since the conversion i used now doesnt need that 27c4096-10 ... rest of 9x 27c4096 are rated on 120ns (-12) . The 27c1001 i put it on 9a . The 16v8b on 1a (here i had questions because i thought my top3000 doesnt do these gals right, but he do them right) . My donor was Quiz Tonosama No Yabou 2 Zenkoku-ban . I dint know what to say is what Aje & Caius used for this purpose :saint:

Are you sure that board doesn't need 27C400 mask ROM pinout instead of 27C4002/4096?
I'm fairly certain - the solder mask on my B board matches what MostroVeneno showed in pictures of his 90629B-2: the "top half" of the graphics section calls for HN62404P-N (so those would be 27C400), and the bottom half of the graphics section calls for HN27C4096 (noted earlier in the thread as equivalent to 27C4002). I'm using the same EPROM locations that MostroVeneno showed.

Thanks! I'll hunt down that ROM set and see if that is my issue. I'll also try out the GAL from Quiz Tonosama No Yabou 2 Zenkoku-ban

Hello ! I dont think is a good ideea ... in any rate , this is where i start to read when i've done my research about this conversion (Quiz Tonosama No Yabou 2 Zenkoku-ban -> Daimakaimura (Japan Resale Ver.) . There are @aje_fr notes. Maybe you will have more answers from that theard ^^

Oh I must has misunderstood. Thank you for the heads-up!

After reading through aje_fr's thread, I think it's best that I start fresh. I'll burn a new set of ROMs from the resale set noted in AlxUnderBase's previous post (I'd dump and CRC against the set Alx used, but it's probably just as quick to reburn and erase the old ROMs for later reuse), then circle back to tracking down the GAL that aje_fr built on the other forum.

What a roller coaster, but I did get it working!

  • I can confirm that the MAME rom works as-is with a 90629B-3 B board
    • I used an unmerged copy of daimakair
    • No patching necessary - generic B-21 C boards work fine
  • Turns out the C board I was testing with died during testing, luckily it was one of the generic boards that sheep_nova is selling on eBay, not an original from another game. Ordered another to backfill
  • I've lost my Google-fu, thankfully another member pointed me in the right direction for the JED to burn to a GAL. I could find where it was created, but the link to download on that forum was removed by the creator. several years ago. I tried to follow his process to create the JED, but the software he used is from '93 and would require spinning up a virtual machine. While I was prepared to do that, I was pointed in the right direction for a download. Since the creation of that JED is not my work, and the person who created it wants to keep it quiet to avoid conversion resellers getting hold of it, I won't post it here. However, now that I know what I should have been looking for, it's easily found on the web.
After getting the GAL and figuring out that my C board had kicked the bucket, I still had some bad graphics issues. There is a Daimakaimura "resale conversion" ROM floating out there on a French ROM site. In the README, it states it is for a -2 B board. I used this at one point, hoping that the JED included would get me up and running (it does not, btw). After checking the CRC32 of the graphics roms in this version, I found that half of them didn't match the MAME rom. Replacing the ones that didn't match the MAME rom was what finally finished off the project. So my takeaways are: test your C board on a known working game every few reseats, use the actual MAME ROM, and work on your Googlin' skills.

Hello,

I'm trying to perform the same conversion, but using:

- 91635B-2 B Board
- 8 AM27C400-120DC
- 2 HN27C4096G-10
- 1 HN27C301AG-15
- 1 ATF16V8BQL-15PU

Should it work?
