Just checking the “original” cartridge conversions are simply conversions from cheaper games? Or are they original games with updates?

Also what’s the deal with the Splatterhouse Darksoft mod?

They are original cartridges of less popular games converted to these.

And what about the Splatterhouse Darksoft mod?

The "custom key" for this game is more than just copy protection; it interacts with certain parts of the program and performs operations that influence the behavior of some game scenes. The Darksoft program version (without a custom key) implements the functions of this "original custom key", achieving the same result as with the original custom key. The other "no custom key" versions of the program available online don't do this; they simply disable the "custom key."

Although Darksoft can explain it better than I can.

Thanks for the info. Re: Splatterhouse, I thought it was a mod to the game made by Darksoft :)

It's the same program found in the Darksoft Namco System1 Multi. Extracted from there. ;)
