I think for the people who do geek out over this stuff, half the draw is in getting them "officially". Even if you detective-worked down the manufacturer and got the exact same stool, without the serial number like @jassin000 mentioned, it's not going to be nearly as important to them
That's 100% true for me, I wouldn't want a "Chewlix" cab... Why would I want a "Chewlix" stool? ;)

A Chewlix stool that is made by the original manufacturer and just missing a Taito sticker. Yes, your comparison makes sense.

Anyway, my point was more aimed at those that have been wanting a bench but have had trouble finding one. However, it is very much now moot since it seems @rancor can get them from Taito.

I don't personally get the love for official Sega/Taito stools -- to me, they're just stools, I can get them way cheaper somewhere else -- but I think for the people who do geek out over this stuff, half the draw is in getting them "officially".
Completely disagree.

I bought 5 different types of stools over the years trying to find one that was the right height and comfortable. had the opportunity to buy the official ones and it's not only the perfect height but very comfortable for me.

If I had the opportunity to buy a knock off at a lower price I could give a shit what it says on the label, but no such knock off or suitable alternative exists.

no joke I probably spent about a grand buying stools that other people suggested, in the end just buying the Taito Stools was the cheaper option.

Also FWIW the Sega ones aren't as good as the Taito ones because they cheeped out on the cushion.

I use the black 'leather' Taito stools on my cabs, and they're the best. If I could get something similar easier I would, I could use a couple more, but I have yet to find anything comparable.

Interesting. I've never had a problem, was pointed at some Craftsman ones that are adjustable with wheels and decent padding and have been very happy with them, but now you have me wondering if I'm only happy in my ignorance!

yup, I had the round Craftsman mechanic stools before I got the official Tatio ones. I think I was the one who recommended them in one of the stool threads.

They were the best stools I could find up until I got the official Taito ones.

Aside from the fact that they have the big ugly Craftsman logo on them they did have a number of shortcomings compared to the Taito stools. The width and thickness of the cushion on the Craftsmans stools is much smaller than the Taito ones, my butt would tend to fall asleep if I sat on the Craftsman stools too long, not a problem with the Taito ones. but most annoyingly the metal rim on the base would scratch up the cabs whenever someone pushed them in. Also the wheels are a double edged sword, while it's nice to be able to move yourself around sometimes they would drift on you while playing, which can be annoying.

They're great for the garage but fall quite short of the Taito stools.

I had some Ikea stools, and while the height was near perfect, the seat padding was basically non-existent.
Like Twisted said above, my ass was always falling asleep while playing.
The other complaint was the shape, which was rounded... Again as T mentioned when pushed all the way in this didn't really fit with the design/shape of the cab.

Taito basically designed the stools to perfectly meet all the requirements of being seated for long periods of time at a candy cab.
Nothing else I've used compares, being made by Taito is only icing on the sweet complete JPN arcade experience cake.

well, if you have anymore on the way and willing to ship, I am still interested in a pair.

Is be interested too if shipping to Germany is possible for a relatively reasonable price
