I got an SFII: CE boardset (JEDEC EPROM type) in the mail today and dumped its ROMs, which all have original-looking Capcom stickers on them that don't look like they've ever been peeled off.

Most of the ROMs matched most or all of the versions in MAME, but the ROM labeled "S92 07" didn't match anything. I re-dumped it a bunch of times to be sure, and it never matched anything at all.

Also, the ROMs labeled "S92 10" through "S92 13" only matched "sf2hfj Street Fighter II\' Turbo: Hyper Fighting (Japan 921209)", which is strange because it's definitely Champion Edition, not Hyper Fighting, and I thought it was only 3 ROMs ("S92 21" through "S92 23") that were unique to Hyper Fighting.

"S92 23" only matches "sf2ceea Street Fighter II\': Champion Edition (World 920313)"

The game works perfectly and plays like normal Champion Edition as far as I can tell. I tried a different EPROM in place of "S92 07," a 27C240 I'd programmed a few years ago, one which matches most, if not all, versions of SFII: CE in MAME, but I got partially garbled graphics with it in there, so I put the original one with the mystery data back in (which is a 27C4002; various sources online say that the 27C240 and 27C4002 are interchangeable), and it worked perfectly again.

I would like to have a known official version of SFII: CE, specifically a USA-market version, instead of this weird mishmash that I have.

With most of the ROMs matching most versions in MAME, including USA-market versions, I think I'd only need to replace ROMs 10 through 13 (which only match a Japanese-market version of Hyper Fighting), ROM 23 (which only matches sf2ceea World 920313), and the mysterious ROM 7. Does that sound right? Other than the EPROMs, are there any other ICs on the B or C-board that are version-specific?

And can anyone confirm that a 27C240 is interchangeable with a 27C4002? I don't want to reprogram the original 27C4002 EPROMs because in case something goes wrong I want to be able to easily put it back the way it was. I have some blank 27C240s I can use if they really are interchangeable with 27C4002s.

I figured out what ROM I could use to replace the mystery ROM 7. It's the one that's labeled 6 in USA and World versions (s92-6m.8a), but it's labeled 7 in Japanese versions (s92_07.9a). So I programmed a 27C240 with that ROM and replaced the original mystery ROM 7 with it, and it still worked perfectly. The reason I got corrupted graphics before when I tried that is because the EPROM I used was programmed with the ROM that's labeled 7 in the USA and World versions (s92-7m.9a), which is labeled as ROM 6 in the Japanese versions (s92_06.8a). And I think the original mystery EPROM 7 is flaky, because I got different checksums on it every time I re-dumped it, which is why it never matched anything in MAME. I don't know how it was able to work perfectly in the boardset.

So a 27C240 is definitely interchangeable with a 27C4002.

Then I tried replacing the four Hyper Fighting ROMs (10 through 13) with CE ROMs and I got corrupted graphics for the same reason as above. So I checked the USA/World vs. Japan labeling, and 11 and 12 were swapped around, so I swapped those CE EPROMs around and it worked perfectly.

Finally, I changed ROM 23 from the original World 920313 EPROM to an EPROM I programmed with USA 920313, and since all the other EPROMs in the boardset also match USA 920313 (among many other versions for most of them), that turned it into a USA-market version, so this project was a success.

Hi, do you have the complete Hyper Fighting ROM set by GAL? I can't find it online anymore. Thanks a lot for your help.
