Current version: rc6 (October 6, 2026)

Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold, known as Zero 2 Dash in Japan, was the console revision of Alpha 2 that added Cammy as a playable fighter. It appeared first on PlayStation and Saturn, and in its final form in Capcom's 2006 PlayStation 2 anthology. It was never released on arcade hardware.

This rebuilds the anthology's edition as a real CPS-2 game. It's a faithful reconstruction, not a remix. It starts from the original arcade Zero 2 Alpha program and restores the anthology's changes piece by piece: Cammy, her graphics, the audio and the endings, each one checked against the PlayStation 2 original.

What's in it

  • Cammy, restored as a playable fighter, with her graphics, palettes, voice, sound effects, win poses and ending.
  • Cammy's own stage music: her X-Men vs. Street Fighter theme, played on Alpha 2's own sound hardware.
  • Shin Akuma is selectable. Press Start five times on Akuma at player select.
  • The revised title, presentation and staff-credit screens for each region.
  • The whole Japanese script, in English, in the English builds: every story and ending page, Evil Ryu's own ending and all 452 win quotes. They also get red blood and Birdie's missing victory pose.
  • Four regional builds: USA (Alpha 2 Gold), Europe (Alpha 2 Dash), Japan (Zero 2 Dash) and Asia (Zero 2 Dash, in English).
  • Two sizes: 4 MB builds for real hardware and stock MAME, with all of Cammy's voices (some compressed to fit), and 8 MB builds with every sound uncompressed for HBMAME and MiSTer.

New in rc6

  • The 4 MB builds now have all of Cammy's voices, including her special moves, dizzy and defeat. To fit them in, ten of her voices and five of the game's own sounds are compressed. In rc5, the 4 MB builds had only five of her voices, and some of her moves, such as Cannon Drill, played another fighter's voice.
  • In the English builds, Dan's ending now has his spoken "Oyaji!", as in Japan.
  • The USA build now shows ALPHA under the round timer, as Europe's Alpha 2 Dash does. rc5 showed ZERO.
Every set has new checksums, so rebuild them with the rc6 kit. Earlier versions are listed on the changelog.

Getting it running

  • You need your own PlayStation 2 anthology disc image: Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, or Street Fighter Zero: Fighter's Generation for the Japan set.
  • You also need your own arcade Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha romset: sfz2al, plus sfz2alj for the Japan set.
  • The kit rebuilds each set from those. It ships no code or data from the anthology or the arcade game, with one exception: Cammy's stage music uses about 4 KB of her theme's score from X-Men vs. Street Fighter, which the kit carries.
  • The 4 MB builds run in stock MAME and on CPS-2 hardware. The 8 MB builds hold more QSound audio than an original CPS-2 board supports, so they're for HBMAME and MiSTer only.
Full instructions are on the project page.
