So I have one of these, which has been working quite well, until this evening. I got my hands on a bootleg TOKI and it was playing fine for an hour or so, but then the graphics started glitching and all of sudden there was smoke pouring out of the SuperGun.

So I need to get a replacement SuperGun, is there any recommendations? I'm slightly concerned that the issue was the SuperGun so am concerned about buying another of this type, so any recommendations? Wouldn't mind switching over to a USB interface if anyone knows of any,

The other question is if the issue could have been casued by the board itself rather than the SuperGun?

That sucks... but for a $30 Supergun, you can only expect the worst unfortunately.

The words "AliExpress" and "Supergun" aren't compatible when it comes to reliability or Quality Control.

re: a replacement Supergun, the widely recognised best option is the HAS: https://rgbslab.com/

You can get a Mini Gun if you want to go the budget route, but being open source, just make sure you buy it from someone trusted in the community that builds them properly like @Big_P Big_p, @jcmorrisii, etc.

Yea, to be fair I was initially cautious of the AliExpress supergun, but it's really the only ones I'm seeing that were in stock and it has been working well until tonight.
I'll have a look around on here and see what I can find. I'll keep an eye out for the HAS or a Mini Gun.

To be fair, I think the board I was using played a part in the problem and should of inspected before just plugging it in. Just noticed that this isn't your standard notch || so I'm presuming they'll be something up with the board that caused the issue.

Just had a look at the HAS and it does look good... now if only they were in stock, is there anywhere else to get them other than rgbslab.com?
I see the MAK Strike in stock in some places, but looks like people have issues with it, but presumably more reliable than something from AliExpress?

I have a mak and ut works okay. Just dont use undamned decoders or it will fry.

Please wait for the HAS - they restock regularly. You're lucky that it was only your AliExpress SuperGun that burned up and not any of the things plugged into it. I've read plenty of stories of damaged upscalers, displays, controllers and of course game boards from folks using poor quality Chinese SuperGuns.

I was looking at getting this bundled in with an arcade psu

With the USB encoders is there anything you'd recommend? I was maybe thinking of wiring into a GP2040-CE from a DB15 cable
Just wait till the HAS is back in stock, or post a WTB thread for one, or get someone to build you a Minigun. I have NEVER heard of a situation where a HAS or Minigun (if built correctly and to spec) has damaged equipment. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks everyone, going to wait for a HAS have put the feelers out to see if anyone has one (or a mini gun) whilst I wait for a restock

Just wanna thank everyone for pushing me to get the HAS, got a 4.2 today and so far it's great, although I'm sure the power supply for it will literally kill me one day 😅
I'll be keeping an eye out for when the v5 is back in stock for sure.

Decided to upgrade from an OSSC to a RetroTink as well and the combo has actually resolved some display issues I was having with a couple of boards 🥳

So I was bored over the weekend and repaired the issue with the broken cbox.
Ive wired in an arcade power supply into it and am now able to get a decent 5v through it. 👍🏼

Not planning on using it for regular usage, just for testing. Just wondering if there's anything I need to be concerned with?
