Hi.
Has anyone ever tried to use these "bootleg"/decrypted romsets present in mame to desuicide / convert a system 16 board? Does anyone know if these work?

Yes, the decrypts run on a standard 68k processor. Swap out the socketed FD module on the motherboardand install a standard 68k. Then swap in the requisite decrypted program roms. Also adjust the rom board jumpers. some motherboards also need a standard z80 for audio.

Not all revisions have decrypts but pretty much every game has one. There’s a lot of info here but generally speaking any game can be converted to another that runs on the same rom board revision, and has a decrypt set

there may also be a few decrypts that didn’t make it into mame, but might be out there if you ask. jammarcade used to host some, and segaressurection sold them (probably still does)

but just buy the system16 multi and be done ;) https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/finally-multi-system-16b-sega.5798/
