Recently finished designing and ordering parts for about 25 of these. They are near 1:1 with intentional small differences.

Main notable change is the supercaps. Panasonic no longer makes these and they are all old stock at any remainder vendors. Ive subbed these with new Nichicon evercaps that are slightly smaller physically but are same specs with a little voltage overhead.

Ive sourced every part x25 and will include along with the pcb’s (except for the standoffs). Looking to sell the whole project to someone that has more time than me to make.

Thanks
Brandon

Did we ever figure out the purpose of this board?
Can it be freely added or removed?

Haven't checked it firsthand (I have a G-NET without the backup board) but I suspect that it stores the high scores and bookkeeping info so that information isn't lost when the board's power is switched off. I don't believe that info gets stored in the on-board flash. There is a 2kb EPROM on the Sony ZN-2 mainboard, but I believe that only stores the game configuration.

Ah so if one wants high scores one need replace caps.
I wonder how long it holds it on a power off?
Maybe I will mess with mine and see how long it holds.

I bought up these, (couldn't bear to see hard work die on the vine I guess), so I will assemble and make these available for anyone who wants/needs one for their G-Net. I have an original backup board on mine, (unsure if it actually works still), so I'll try and do a comparison.
