I was playing around with my microscope and it apparently can record 720p video at 30fps using it's own storage (and avoiding the USB2.0/RPi bottleneck), with the only draw back is that it seems to be raw/uncompressed and it maxes out at a 32gb SDHC card - so I could probably could redo the IC map in video form and be under the ~5 minutes or so of record time I think I'd have.
