so my namco system 246 system works fine. however, my dvd drive is failing. it is very hard to find a replacement drive for this game. Do we have a compact flash solution yet? or any advise?

The Tattiebogle IDE Simulator is what you want. I have Tekken 4 running on one right now. Currently out of stock, but I'm sure there will be more.

There's a (very long) thread for it here:

You can try to repair the optical drive.

Tekken 4 is only easy to read discs in the dongle last version D; other Early versions A、B、C are all on a difficult level and are very picky about the optical drive model and reading ability. Therefore, you need to replace this file inside the dongle.

This file is an upgraded and improved version for successfully reading DVDs.

I thought this one had issues playing T4 because it didn't support some older ATAPI commands or somethign or am I thinking of some other issue.

Ok I need one when available . Wonder if anyone wants to part ways or trade for it

is there also another way to make it tekken 4 version d work with any dvd drive?

if that's the case, then reversing both and comparing is kinda worth it...

Wonder what would happen if you replace the ACDVD driver with one from a game of a similar release date that isnt as problematic with drives

There is also this Incomplete and WIP driver that would allow to deal with these disc drive issues more comfortably in the future
https://github.com/PS2Homebrew-arcade/acata-alternative

By redirecting the I/O to a different device, like an ISO image stored on the SDCard of a PSXMemCardGen2
