What's new

That escalated quickly

Man, don't eat lunch at your desk while watching an eBay auction end. Those are all my bids as I finished my soup.

No wonder I got outbid on YAJ for one of those today, mind you 6400 Yen was probably optimistic.

Derick, hackcell, penrhos, check your PM's ;)

Edit: jugu, I pm'd you as well. I found these for a decent price but I wanted the people who already posted in this thread to have first dibs on them.

damn, I've got to stop lurking these threads ... this is like the third deal hookup I've missed because I decided not to publicly bitch about losing auctions. :P

Got my boards in today, super quick shipping. So that should take care of my ringedge units.

My new board from Betson arrived as well.

Funny thing, I talked to two sales guys from Betson. I asked about purchasing other arcade hardware, specifically Sega stuff, and both guys had no clue what I was talking about. I guess they deal with other amusements and vending parts.

Just an FYI.

Nice looking boards with SMT chip instead of huge DIP- is there a reason the traditional Naomi JVS IO won't work (feature-wise), or is Sega just a tool and forces people to use a newer IO board?

the crux of the issue is that The type 3 has more output pins. other than that it's nearly identical (functionally) to a type 1.

Some games will refuse to boot unless all the necessary output pins are present and a lot of the newer games have a shit-ton of LEDs that they need output pins for.

The Type 2 I/Os have more output pins than the Type 3, but they have fewer input pins so it works for some games that wont boot with a type 1 (like 2-Spicy) but the type 2 wont work for other games that Need all the input pins that the type 1 and type 3 have (such as Initial D).

I will say that Every Net-Bootable game on NAOMI will boot with a Type 1... the semi-exception being the rotary-encoder games (Dynamic Golf, Outtrigger, and Sega Bass Fishing) which also need a separate rotary-encoder I/O board regardless of what you're using for a primary I/O board.

on Lindbergh I was able to boot every game there with a Type 1 EXCEPT 2-Spicy, and that was due to lack of outputs, I was able to boot that with a Type 2 I/O just fine. This despite most of those games shipping with Type 3 I/O boards.

I don't know Chihiro or Tri-Force I/O compatibility but I'd suspect most of the problem games are the RingEdge/Wide games designed for more elaborate/flashy cabinets.
