The existing netboot version of MBAA uses version 0.

This is because the fixed A version does not work.

The game boots, but when the dual characters are selected (and other characters) the game will hang after the battle style selection.
When the game hangs you cannot enter setup, only solution is to powercycle.

I have tested this on various stock BIOS versions, the last test I did was with the NAOMI 2 and the latest multi BIOS from @mathieulh

That is correct, it is the bugfixed version A, but sadly not in a playable state on cf or netboot.

I doubt it's relevant especially since you said you're using the multi bios... but MBAA is one of those games that requires H Bios to even boot. Also it is one of the few games that won't fit on a 256MB dimm.

I had been told the same about this game, ie its the only Naomi game that requires a 512mb DIMM.
I suspect its the method in which Sega used to patch/bug fix the game... Has @MetalliC chimed in on this before?

Yes MetalliC has looked at this on and off the last years

I am aware that it requires 512MB.

What is weird is that version 0 works but then a supposed balance bugfix breaks it. Of course the original cart works!
