I bought a non working tc3 dual cabinet. He had a guy come work on it a couple times,he said it would work a while then stop again and he's done messing with it. So I took the wiring, power supply, pcb home with me because the arcades are at my storage. When I turn it on at first I wasn't getting anything but a black screen as far as video, I did get the beeps. I made a copy of the dvd and put that in and it booted up into the game. I don't have the gun at my house just working on getting it booted up.

Switched to the 2nd pcb and did get it to boot after messing with it. The 2nd one had been the problem before because when I went and got them someone had the dvd player unplugged and the case open on the pcb. It is a 246 rack C. But I have got both to boot up so I know they work at least sometime. The problem I have is not loading up, if I keep trying eventually I can get it to boot. What happens most of the time when I turn on the power
1. Blue screen (and most of the time it is not solid blue it looks like it's distorted I will post a picture later)
2. Beeps happen, screen turns black
3. DVD player starts reading. The black screen looks distorted as well like has white in it so I know at least it's reading the display.

After a few mins most of the time the dvd just stops reading, but while it's reading I can hear the disc spinning and coming though the speakers. When I do get it to load it comes up to a blue screen buffram write (see pic below). Then goes to a black loading screen ( also pictured below). Every now and then it will freeze on the first loading prompt ( 1st picture below with a single loading). But most of the time it will load into the game if I get to the 2nd blue screen. The image on the monitor looks doubled but this could just be the computer monitor I am using.

I have checked the voltage and at power supply pin I get 13.2 and 5.27, at the pcb I get 12.95 and 5.17 and the dvd I get 12.94 and 5.14. I bought a new dvd drive it's on the way, the same lg that's in it now. I also tried a converter on the back of a sata drive to 40 pin but it didn't work either. I have bought another disc and dongle on ebay just waiting on it to come in to test the dongle as well.

I did find out the 2nd power supply fan is not working. I took it apart before work this morning and the fan is super hard to turn, so I ordered a new fan today to replace that, but the volts are working fine. I was thinking that could have over heated and caused it to stop working messing the game up when he said it would work a while then mess up. T

he dip switches in the front of the pcb, I have 4 and they was all off when I got it to boot, however I did get it to boot with them all on as well. I have the manual but it doesn't say what they do which is crazy to me, so if anyone knows what each 1 does that would be great I have searched 3 days and can't seem to find the answer. There is also 2 serial ports on the front the left one is the vga for monitor what is the 2nd for? It was hooked up in the cabinet i just didn't follow the cable when I took it out. I also took the battery out of one board and it was 2.9v so I don't think that's a problem although I don't know what it's used for maybe high score?

I am fairly new to arcades but I am planning on opening a business with several so I need to learn how to work on them. I am pretty good with electronics and enjoy fixing stuff. If anyone has any suggestions on what I need to test or try I'm all ears. Sorry if I rambled on, I was just trying to remember everything and be as detailed as I could to eliminate what I could. Thanks in advance.

So I'm not a 246/256 expert, I have 2(3) one 246 Ridge Racer 5 I think, and the rest are 256's that can be switched to 246 or 256, so in principal they're PS2's and the entire program runs off the Memory Card, and then it loads media, textures, sounds etc.. off the CD/DVD Rom.
When you turn it on, it should check the memory card, and then give you a couple of beeps, and shut up (booting) or 3 beeps, and a "Na Na Na Na" type sound, (Fault / Failure to boot) That's about all the diagnostics I know exist.

For the dips: Copied from https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Namco_system_256
  • 1 off=Game mode, on=test mode
  • 2 off=3v video output, on=0.7v video output
  • 3 off=15khz video, on=31khz video
  • 4 off=composite sync, on=h/v sync

For use with a VGA (31k) monitor, use off,on,on,on

There are 2 VGA Outputs (15 Pin DIN) connectors, I think there is a serial connector, but it looks like a couple exposed pins in a row. There's RCA Red + White stereo Audio, and you'd want to plug into it, as if you plug into the JAMMA adapter a lot of the time the audio doesn't engage until the jamma board has gone through its self check... so don't rely on jamma audio, from either jamma edge or RCA cable, if you want diagnostic sounds, plug right into the main cage.
Again this is all based off my own tinkering, and some reading, so high likelihood someone will correct me.

Most likely if you have booting issues, I'd get a cleaning DVD/CD, and or try and burn a new CD/DVD, from an image (ISO) and and then swap DVD drives and see if the issue moves with the DVD Drive. And if it does consider a new drive. Also Computer Monitors have varying Resolutions they support, you either have to find an old 19" LCD, or something that can sync to it, or verify with an old TV/Tube Monitor (4x3) that you can see an image, as it's possible you're not able to reproduce the sync rate that's being output, I'd try the Dips to see if you can last resort, get a scan converter to see if you can make it LCD compatible.

I did get everything up and running finally. New dvd roms, caps on power supply. The monitor is missing red on 1 of them. I have checked everything I could think of and researched so I think it needs rejuvenation but I don't have a machine yet.
