Top Skater replacement screen - short throw projector???

I am looking to purchase a Top Skater arcade (I always loved this game as a kid), the one I am looking at has a bad screen as the dlp projector needs to be replaced.

Rather then installing an ugly 16:9 lcd, I was going to try the short throw projector below.

1. How can I connect a Sega Model 2 game to a projector? VGA converter or some other method?

2. Could I play Sega Super Ski G on a Top Skater machine?

1- you need one of these https://www.amazon.com/DEVMO-GBS8200-Converter-Monitor-GBS-8200/dp/B07TWZBQ75

And you will need to adjust the geometry Clamp ST and SP values to ST=04 and SP=05 cause Top Skater is a medrez game. (see

Well, i had to play with the physical color pots on the gbs8200 cause it was *way* too bright coming out of it, on both the screens here, so it was not the projector doing it.

Now that it is good, I’ll start to strip the projection screen and see if it will so in there.

Well i carefully removed all boards and old projectors to try the new one…and after trying the projector in, i was quickly less carefull with the old stuff! Aka it will never go back!

Damn it’s nice! And of course the challenge now is to make the image fit properly.
More as i play with it…

Again: it's a challenge to fill the screen and to have it square. I am not there yet but getting closer.

Sorry for the lack of updates... I'm a little bit frustrated with the projectors ... and the lack of space of my basement! (aka I can't bring the skate part inside and try it in play).
Let's just say it's REALLY hard, almost impossible for me, to fit the projection perfectly on the screen, with the hitachi projectors that I have.

I have top skater and done it on sega rally 2 dx.
Both are crt rgb projectors originally and not dlp as stated in op.

I used a nec multi sync, which handled the model 3 medium res natively from the dsub15

However the output is not there on model 2- so still to do on top skater in 2023

In rally 2 the projection lens was gone and someone installed a 16:9 which I instantly removed.

The issues above I believe to be because some projectors minimum screen size is greater than 50”

The nec I think states 55, but worked good enough for me.

I used rear screen material on a custom frame.
