I picked up a few NOS Toshiba D29C456 "SB" monitors from Zax and was wondering if anyone had details around these?

Supposedly these are tri-syncs and the first box I opened does indeed have a PE0493 chassis.

From Zax listing;
*BRAND NEW IN BOX* Namco: (598-365)
29" FLAT CRT Trisync (15/24/31Khz) Monitor (D29C456)

Direct replacement for Japanese Maximum Tune 1, 2, and 3 cabinets.
Suitable with Japanese Mario Kart Cabinets.
Suitable for use with most TOSHIBA based CRT chassis architecture.

Have folks seen these before??? Any more info that can be shared? And what's with the "SB"?

Here's a quick pic

I have worked on a couple of these before. Was installed in Mario Kart GP 2.
PE0493 is a tri-sync chassis. Arcade otaku wiki has some info on it, but it’s basically the same chassis as the PD1843 used in a lot of Sega New Net Citys. The PE0493 has the geometry pots on the chassis, but you can use the same remote as the PD1843 to get to the extended menus.

Is it a Toshiba tube or Matsushita tube? In my experience the Toshiba tube is brither with a sharper image.
Regardless.. Congrats on NOS tubes! Epic stuff!

Thanks BuddyC!

It's a Matsushita tube. Bummer it's not a Tosh tube, but still stoked to have a few NOS monitors! Curious how this tube/chassis stacks up to the Sanwa PFX...

Thx again BuddyC!

I emailed Zax about the "SB" on the box and frame. Not sure why I did not think of that earlier!

I have run the sanwa pfx with the Toshiba tube. It ran for a year or so and no problems with stability. Convergence will never be perfect no matter how hard you try though. I sold it and got a Toshiba chassis and now convergence is perfect.

Great to hear from someone who has tried it. My Tosh with pd1843 chassis looks super good. I was just wondering about compatibility. I have the sanwa pfx kw0606a chassis loose that came out from a matsushita tube. Have it as a spare chassis. Thanks for sharing.

Note that neck pin 4 is possibly left floating on the PFX chassis if it was originally paired with the Matsushita tube. Connecting it to a Toshiba tube will result in arcing on the neck board.

If you can't see a pot on the neckboard, don't connect it as is. Instead put a 10 Mohm resistor between pin 4 and ground.

Awesome. I will take note of this. There is no pot on neckboard. Good to hear from a Pro.
