twistedsymphony's adventures in making PCBs.

Does storm blade/drift out use any other special connection besides the math coprocessor?
Wondering if twin eagle uses the same chip/significance of the extra ram.

there's a RAM chip on the ROM board I think related to the Math CoProcessor.
there is also an ADC0809 A/D converter and a μPD4701A counter chip but many games seem to have this, not sure what it's used for.

twin eagle uses the same chip
it does, but does not have the RAM, AD cverter or counter chip.
Ultra-X-Weapon is an identical hardware config to Twin Eagle II, even though it was released on an all-in-one board. you can ROM swap Twin Eagle to Ultra-X-Weapon.

significance of the extra ram.
significance of the extra RAM is just extra RAM for the game to run on... it's not at all related to the math co-processor.

So the ram chips could be swapped on the mainboard in theory then to upgrade it for extra ram games?

yes, they're even socketed.

the 4in1 multi that includes Ultra-X-Weapon includes new ram chips to install on the main board for just this reason

Just out of curiosity what is the part # of the increased ram.
I want to try some experiments.

Changes from 256 to 1 MB.
Looks like 5 spots can be upgraded.

Despite having like 3+ multis in the fire, they were on hold while I waited for a test PCB to get back from fabrication and I decided to put together another one.

I think this will be another one like VG420 where the people who have a suitable donor you can count on one hand, but I've always wanted to make this one.

I think that's it for starting new projects and now I've got finish some 😂
I posted this AGES ago and now it has it's own thread: https://www.arcade-projects.com/threads/jaleco-mega-system-1c-multi-kit.38514/#post-504629

I've re-opened http://bit-district.com to sell these kits I've made, right now you can buy the Metro VG420 multi, this Jaleco Mega System 1C multi, my LCD selector, and I've got some other stuff planned.

Metro VG460 multi will be available in November and I have some other stuff queued up and planned!

I need the community's help sourcing some PCB for multi work :D

1. Anyone with a Taito Syvlion (H-System) PCB that they would be willing to let me borrow, or one to buy (even non-working) at a reasonable price? I need to understand part of the circuit that is specific to this board to determine if conversions (and/or a multi) can be made from other H-System games.

2. Anyone with Taito Space Invader DX, SPECIFICALLY the version on the PCB with the big "ET910000B" silkscreen on it. Really I only need a PLD dump from this board, so if you've got one I can get you setup with a dumper, or I'd like to borrow it so I can dump it, or I'll buy one for a reasonable price.
I've been working conversions/potential multi for the Taito B-System and need to know how this PLD works to get this game working.

3. Anyone with a Konami Cue-Brick Twin-16 version (with the backup daughter-board) and/or a Twin-16 PCB with the LONG Video board. I'd like to repro the backup board for cue-brick and I've also started working on a multi here but need a long-board variant of the Twin-16 to check compatibility. This is one I'd like to buy rather than borrow since I'll likely need to completely disassemble the daugher-board.

I imagine this has already been considered, but
as for the H SYSTEM, wouldn't PCBs from games like “Go For The GOLD” or “Dynamite League”—which are cheaper than Syvlion (H-System)—work just as well?

I think you mis-understand what I'm asking.

If I make a multi it will likely use Go For the GOLD or Tetris as a donor.

I need to borrow a Syvlion PCB so I can understand how it is different from those other PCBs in order to make Syvlion work on those other PCBs.

Hi twistedsymphony!

I read your post regarding the multi project. I see you are specifically looking for the Twin-16 long video board variant and the backup daughter-board to check compatibility.

I currently have the short version of Cue-Brick (single PCB). I know it is not the exact long variant you mentioned, but if you think this short version could be of any use for your research, dumping, or the multi project in general, you can count on it. Let me know if it helps!
