Sup Dudes,

A while back I picked up a buncha SP System games and I've been playing a lot of Raiden Fighters Jet and the original Viper Phase 1 and now I'm looking to get a Viper Phase 1 New Version.

I know this is a tough one to come by so it's a long shot. I've been checking the forums everyday over the past week or so looking for one so I figured why not drop a line.

Hit me up if anyone knows of a nice condition Viper Phase 1 New Version that might be up for sale.

Thanks!

If you have an original Viper Phase 1 you can ROM swap it.

honestly though Viper Phase 1 USA version is IMO the best version. it incorporates the easier game-play features of NV plus adds an extra loop.

Yeah sounds good to me.

I don't have a ROM burner and I've actually never done that before....although...that is certainly something I should get into....especially now since I cant leave the house any more.

Anyway, sure. Looking to purchase a Viper Phase 1 American Ver.

I saw one go on Ebay a few weeks ago but I just wasn't in the market at that moment.

I just missed one on FB for $100... :(

Just by a few hours too. I did grab the guys Battle Balls though, heh, I grabbed his battle balls...

Oh nice. Never played that one.

$100 is an insane price for a Viper Phase 1 dude Jesus.

I know. When someone doesn't know what they have, is it a dick move to tell them and screw the buyer, or not and the seller loses out? I think the burden of pricing is on the seller, so I didn't say anything.

Last year I scored a Metamorphic Force for $100, plus $25 shipping. It was crazy, I told the guy I think it was a $400 game at the time. He said thanks for your honesty, it's a $100 if you can pay today! I love that game, because it's a great brawler, but also because of the story with it.

Was that local or "general"? You damn kids and your Facebook - my refusal to give The Zucc my data screws me out of so many board and DDR deals......

It was not local, he mailed me the game I did snag.

it's not just the US release it's actually referred to as the "USA" version right on the title screen:

From what I understand the different versions as as follows:

Viper Phase 1: Released in Japan, Germany, and HK Regions
Viper Phase 1 New Version: Released in Japan, Korea, "World", Germany, Portugal, Holland, and Switzerland regions
Viper Phase 1 USA: Released in USA

so USA only ever got the USA version, HK only ever got the original version,
Germany and Japan got both, but the rest of the world only ever got "New Version"

New Version weakens the secondary weapons, but gives them unlimited ammo, bomb deploy time is sped up, and the points system is adjusted to make it easier. I could be wrong but I believe most of the world version don't actually specify that they're new version, so it's possible you already have it depending on the region of your game.

USA version adds all of the New Version changes plus the second loop.

But all of these are a simple ROM swap away from each other provided you have the correct region mobo.

In general "New Version" is considered easier so some people seek out the original since it's the harder version.

IIRC in order to play Viper Phase 1 -USA-, your motherboard has to be a U.S. region one or else it won't work.

Battle Balls is such an underrated Puzzle Game. I still have mine. :D

this is true be we can region swap mobos now: https://bitbucket.org/trap15/spi_revive/src/master/
I've used this to swap the region of just about every one of my SPI mobos.
I was just reading about this. All of my SPI games/mobos are U.S. region so I never really had to worry about region lockout. But this will definitely come in handy when I come across a Raiden Fighters Jet for sale.

My board is Japanese but I am not against purchasing a north american board plus cartridge.

Will play the game a lot. I only leave the house for food and booze. It's kinda awesome but not at all, I'm sure you know what I mean.

Thanks guys!

Hey so the USA boards can run any region cartridge?

No, all mobos and all carts are region locked. But you can change the region of any cart with a ROM swap and you can change the region of any Mobo with spi revive.

This is a game well worth seeking out, now, while you can.

It does not have a port, and is an amazing shmup, with great music.
