WTB VIPER PHASE 1

Want To Buy
850 shipped is way pricey for what you could probably get that for in the states.

I got one VP1 set for free, the second one for 130....RF1 for like 120 w/mb, and the jet cart for 150 i think?

If they would have released VP1 on any console whatsoever, I wouldnt really need the second board...but its one of my top 10 shmups at my place....so its got its backup on my shelf, just in case.

I didn't realize the games were just on carts like that for those boards.
Yes, The SPI system has the games on the carts and generic mobos.

FYI the games need to be "installed" which requires switching a jumper and then waiting 10+ minutes for it to flash the game to the mobo, so changing games isn't a quick process.

Also the mobo region needs to match the cart region or the game wont boot. There are ways to modify both the region of the cart and the mobo if you have an EEPROM programmer

Also, if you interrupt the flashing process you can corrupt the flash and brick the motherboard X/

(and no, SPI Revive did not work. The flash chip needs to be replaced)

yeah, that's because it wipes the chip first, then the last thing it reflashes is the security/region bit.

in most cases SPI revive should work, or worst case desoldering the flash chip and programming manually.

I know I've restored mobos both ways. A failed flash shouldn't kill a flash chip, unless the flash failed because the flash chip died.

That's true, I guess it will probably program manually. I haven't tried. All I know is I shutdown the cab while it was flashing and it's been a dud ever since.

So that's one board with all three games? I didn't realize the games were just on carts like that for those boards.
Is that website pretty trust worthy?
Ordered from him a few times, everything has come very quickly and well packed.

I know some people don't like supporting his site, but compared to YAJ or eBay, the few things I've bought are WAY cheaper.

At risk of being OT, does anyone know if it's possible to de-suicide these seibu boards?

Idk guys....I think I might bite on this deal....

Kind of a XMAS gift...

What exactly is the process for switching games? Is the process for switching games is just flipping switches on the A board and inserting the cartridge?

And would recapping the board be dangerous as far is bricking the thing?

Sorry I don't know much about these SPI boards, but those are some of my favorite vertical shooters.

Cabinet off.....swap the cartridge, move the jumper, boot the cabinet, wait until the countdown gets all the way to zero, turn the cabinet off, move the jumper back, boot up and play.

If you brick anything, it wont be the cartridge, it'll be the MOBO...so you could always throw down on another MOBO, until you get the main one fixed, as long as the regions match.

This link has a ton of info on the system, so it should be helpful!

With the newer, smaller motherboard, you don't have to move any jumpers. Just plug in a different game and it will auto-flash.

Yes sir I have. I decided to go with the kit from Japan because it comes with Raiden Fighters, Raiden Fighters Jet, AND Viper Phase 1, with a main board which I don't have.

Although it's the original version of Viper Phase 1 and not the New Version, I think I'm gonna love it. I've played it emulated a bunch and it's the shit. And later on down the road I can always maybe track down the New Version.

By the way, thank you so much for all the info guys. As always, you guys on these forums are always super helpful and I appreciate it.

Well the good news is, the board and games showed up already.

The bad news is, this board seems to be incompatible with my TV via HAS Supergun.

So now I'm looking to replace the crappy TV in my tate setup.

Kinda bummed.
