I have a u2000 that that has no neck glow or high voltage wine. (But I hear the degaussing coil) I want to pull the chassis and send it out. But since so many people sing the "it's junk" song, I read in a another forum the Weiya h825 and h826 work on the tube. So if anyone had the choice, would you go with the Weiya and isolation transformer route for 100? Or the recap/refurbish route for +160?

I'd always go with original Chassis on original tube if possible. You will get a better picture. It is not a great chassis but I would keep repairing it until parts are no longer available.

Thanks I will just get it repaired. And ideas on any services? Guessing by the phone number, i think Arcade cup is within a 30min radius of me. But the turnaround times are a bit long.

K7400 is also compatible with that tube if you can find a decent priced one on ebay.

I have a U2000 and it really is a shitty chassis, it's just poorly designed, has a lot of failure points that need to be fixed and even when it's fully rebuilt/fixed up and running perfectly the picture is mediocre. the k7400 is nearly identical to the u2000 but has a nicer picture and doesn't have nearly as many design issues.

Well, IIRC they share the same neck board, which has a propensity to cook the traces.

the k7400 just makes for a good half way point between keeping it original and replacing the monitor completely since it's essentially a newer revision of the u2000.

The sad part is, i can trip over a crack in the sidewalk and land in front of a 19in WG , i even have a raw frame lcd i test with. But nothing will look right in a STV cab but its intended monitor. I honestly dont like the STV board but i dug the cab but i am beginning to doubt that too.
