Yep cutting the horizontal metal bars is pretty much mandatory, and then also pulling the chassis down onto the metal shelf under the usual monitor position is the usual way people tate the stock monitors (keep it in the plastic frame and just use double sided tape to secure it).
I actually have FrancoB's verticab now, and that got away with that by having a non-standard (but yummy 31K 14" monitor) which fit without modification:

Then yeah, you need to work out a mounting frame and drill some more bolt holes for machine bolts + nuts yep.
And finally there is some modification required to the plastic front plastic.
Honestly I'd be happy with any repro kit for the plastic surround, be it in horizontal or vertical monitor orientation! 8o
