Will the GPU out of a Lindbergh Red work in a Lindbergh Yellow?

So our House of the Dead 4 machine stopped working, GPU died. We picked up a 7600GS off ebay out of China, says it came out of a Lindbergh Red. After installing and booting up, the game stays at a black screen after the loading bar. In other words, the only image you see is from the first few minutes of boot time before the test pattern. No sound, no game playing in the background.

It's a different card with a narrower memory bus.

All the specs of the 7600GS appear to be higher/better than the 6800GS ? Am I missing something? Is there anything in the OS that specifically is trying to load the 6800GS?

Yes the system is specifically loading the 6800 or if you have the 7800 gs version drivers for it. The 6800 is still a faster card than a 7600gs anyway and the 6800 version of HOTD4 is not as fast as the 7800gs version.

The card I have in my HOTD4 is a 7800GS. It has a 256bit memory bus. The 7600GS has a 128bit bus and a lower memory clock. It's a budget card.

What 6 series card did you pull from your unit? I assume it's a 6800GT. Again, a more powerful card.

The card that was pulled which failed is a 6800GT, I said 6800GS earlier in the thread that was a mistake.

I bought a 7800GS card off ebay yesterday, waiting for it to arrive. I'm expecting it to work in HOTD4 without needs to update or flash anything, am I correct?

If your game is revision C, it should work as long as it's a Lindbergh card.

I will have to check the revision of the my HOTD4, not sure of it.

The 7800GS I bought had this in the listing from the seller: "
“"Please make a note: SEGA Consoles or Wangan / Wangan Console"”

I don't remember there ever being any Wangan Midnight related game on the Lindbergh... it was on the Chihiro IIRC

I took a chance and purchased it based on the "SEGA Consoles" note being that there could only be 1 Sega system that this GPU came from
