Will there ever be a repro of NEO-C1?

I have three boards now with broken NEO C1. Kind of annoying since everything else is working fine.

Is it possible to do a repro of these chips? Is there anything I can do to help the development forward?

Your best bet probably is to ask Furrtek, possibly on Twitter/X. I think they expressed a desire to reproduce them, but various issues are impeding the work.

Well ... I try to ask him and publish the answer here. Must be the most convenient for all people who wonder and for furrtek himself.

Ok. I obviously hadn't done my homework 😅

Here is the answer from furrtek himself:

It's possible but really not viable for me to be sold as a product because of the difficulty of ensuring quality on something that must be installed to be fully tested.
I've gotten away with simpler repros with smaller pin counts by only doing optical and current consumption checks.

The NEO-C1 is fully reverse-engineered and understood: https://github.com/furrtek/SiliconRE/blob/master/SNK/NEO-C1/NEO-C1_schematics.pdf
Some people on another forum have undertaken the task of making a flex-based repro, although using an obsolete CPLD: https://www.delta-island.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4983&start=96

there is plenty if NEO-C1 around, plenty of rotten MVS boards.. the first gen chipset is harder to find though

Well sir. In a way you are right. There are plenty of NEO-C1 around. But in my experience they're usually corrupt.

I Google translated the French forum and it seems that they're on a good way to make this repro happen.

Jumping on this thread but I think I have a semi-failed NEO-C1, specifically P1 START pin 69 gets pulled low when I press start but I get no response from the MV1FZ. All other buttons works, is there any other way I can confirm I have a fault with NEO-C1?

Hello

It’s not my video, so i cannot :-)
I don’t understand the question related to alternate diagnosis : the tool can run vram, workram, c1, palette test etc..

I don't think that tool is even available yet anyway.
That tool is under development, and some prototype is on the road. Just ask to Aurelien if needed to confirm possible distribution date ou availability.

By software, you can't tell the difference from a dead C1 input (stuck high or low internally) and a dead resistor array or cut trace.

The easiest and valid way is to put a logic probe on the input on the C1. If it goes low when you press the button, then all the circuitry (jamma edge, traces, resistor array) is OK and you can consider the C1 is bad.

Very good answer @Rom1 . Can we please stop the hijack of this thread? If anyone need technical assistance/introduce an exciting project then just start a new thread 😅
