BEMANI Supernova 2 HDD help!

Hoping anyone may be able to help here.
Buddy of mine with dead Supernova 2 HDD, and we are looking for a fix, to keep the cab original, and not do a stepmania conversion, if possible.
Read in a few places that there were some options here, buried in the internet out there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What you want is called "midnight special" which allows you to install SN2 on any hard drive that fits into the PS2 drive bay in the back of the Python2 board.
