What's new
There are 2 types of systems I have issues with:
-Namco System 12, 246 and 256, some of the newer games require a newer version for the display (no way to disable display)
-Taito Type X2, strang coin behaviour, insert 1 coin and the system keeps adding coins without end

So it would not be possible to upgrade my 1.0 board with the 2.0 Cyberlead board dumps?

I've not seen a 2.02, I have a friend with 3 of the 1.03 boards in his Cyber Lead cabs and I have the 3.0 in mine.

I switched out my 3.0 for one of his 1.03 boards to use the JVS-PAC, but switched back when I found my Soul Calibur required the newer revision board to function.

I've actually received the connector from China now to mess around with my 3.0 board and see if I can get it talking, just waiting for a day off where I can get it wired up

I think there was a picture of the 2.02 board on Arcade Otaku at one stage which is where invzim came across it to add it to the wiki as at the time the person posting the photo couldn't identify it

Standard game is Tekken 3
does Tekken 3 uses all its features including LED display ?I'm not very familiar with Namco hw.
Yes, Mr Driller, Soul Calibur and Tekken 3 all interface with it, I can take a video of the boot process and marquee initialization if you like, but basically after it does the initial JVS checks it asks if you want it to connect with the marquee and then installs (for lack of a better word) data for the marquee onto the sub PCB inside the roof where the marquee lives, this process takes a few minutes

I might download the dumps and have a look, I don't think I'll get anywhere with it, but I'd really like to find out how to interface with the marquee and be able to customize it beyond the internally stored graphics

It's worth noting that if you have a game 'installed' into the marquee and you then disconnect it and run a board that doesn't interface with the marquee, the data is retained if you then go back to the board with installed data.

This might seem obvious but I thought it was interesting that the data is retained. I'm not sure how long it is retained for, it's been several months since I had Soul Calibur connected so it might be time to put it back in and see if the marquee needs the data reinstalled. I will update with the answer to that.

yes, correct.

Basically the marquee has 2 sets of data
- game specific data, e.g. Tekken 3, Ehrgeiz, Soul Calibur
- standard messages to choose from (31 to be exact)

If i hook up a non-supported game, it will load the pre-defined standard messages.
If i hook up a supported game which is already programmed it displays the game specific data (without loading)
If i hook up a supported game which is different from the already programmed game it ask confirmation and loads it (few minutes), in this case however you choose not to load it, it will display the standard messages similar to a non-supported game.

Small update on this, I can now run the newer System 12 games which refused to boot before.
What I did was install a V2 I/O and colour display :D

and yes, the V2 is exactly identical to the V1
Except the Otaku Wiki has the images turned around.
My V1 says I/O B on the sticker and the V2 sayd I/O D on the sticker.

Also was able to try a System 256 with the V2 I/O, and yes it runs as well :D

But... no kick-ass marquee like System 12 boards :(

I wonder if the system 246/256 works with the marquee on the 3.0 board - when I get around to getting a 246/256 I'll confirm that.

The CL2 had PS2 and Dreamcast slots in it so it's entirely possible it supported the 246/256 through the marquee. I'd be interested to see the manual. The manual for the system 11/12 games shows the Cyber Lead connection and marquee functionality so it would likely appear in the manual for Tekken 4 if nothing else.

Nothing in the Tekken 4 manual so I'd have to guess it doesn't support the Cyber Lead marquee :(

Edit: Found the operations manual and it uses the Cyber Lead as the example cab (and makes several references to Cyber Lead and Cyber Lead 2) and (off topic) while it doesn't say that the marquee is supported, interestingly it says the 246 hardware has an interlace mode which the CL1/2 both support and this is the recommended mode of operation.

Yeah, was expecting something really kick-ass with the system 256 and Tekken 5 DR...

Anyway, the Tekken Tag is also quite kick-ass ;)

Namco I/O pcb for Led Panel

JAMMA JVS I/O Board Arcade Naomi Converter Board 98701

Jamma JVS I/O Board
Jamma Converter Board
JVS VGA
98701 VER 2.0

I/O Boards
  • System246 JAMMA PCB This I/O board is only used on the 246A chassis, as it is installed internally, and connects directly to a socket on the Namco Daughterboard. Its capabilities are identical to its updated external version.
  • System246(B) JAMMA PCB The default I/O board supplied with most 246B and later chassis, and also available as an add-on kit, contains an onboard stereo amp, video sync inverters to convert the malformed PlayStation 2 sync signal, a JAMMA pinout, and a 10-pin kick harness to support up to 6 buttons per player.
  • Namco FCA PCB is Factory installed inside the System 246(Driving) chassis, but also makes an appearance on Cobra as an interface to the card reader.
  • Namco V185 I/O PCB is a JVS I/O board common on most 2X6 series gun games such as Vampire Night, Cobra, and Time Crisis 3 and Time Crisis 4.
  • Namco V257 STR PCB is a PCB that can be connected to the 246(Driving) chassis via its proprietary front cable port to provide normal driving game and force-feedback functionality. Game that supper this PCB may verify that the force feedback motor is powered by performing a power-on test that checks the wheel potentiometer value while turing the wheel via force feedback. If this check fails, the game may not boot
  • Namco V290 FCB PCB is a JVS I/O board required for Touchscreen games on the 2X6 platform such as Dragon Chronicle Online, Druaga Whole Brain, and others. It supports serial touchscreen interface, card readers, and limited button I/O.
  • Namco V329 NA-JV PCB is a JVS I/O board that is also used on some 2X6 series gun games, and appears mostly interchangeable with the V185 I/O PCB depending on cabinet fittings.
  • Taito Driving I/O is an unknown model (Please update) PCB required for Taito's Battle Gear 3 and Battle Gear 3: Tuned games, providing driving interface and custom card reader functionality for the "key" cards as required by the games.
  • Namco Cyber Lead Arcade Cabinet feature an LED display that, when connected to a 2X6 game that supports them, will display game-specific graphics and information. If a game does not support it, it will show the default display modes.
  • Other Many other JVS I/O pcb from various manufacturers have been tested to work flawlessly for general lever and button games, for example Sega 837-13551-92, 837-13844-02 and 838-13683-02, and the Capcom JVS I/O, with analog inputs and pass-through JVS mode supported on a per-game basis.

Cyberlead will NOT display specifice game stuff on the LED panel with 2x6, just System 12

Trust me, I tried, I have both the v1 (red only) and v2 (color) LED and I/O’s ;)

Have you tried 3.0? I still don't have a 2x6 to confirm it on mine

Have to admit no, that is still my unicorn ;)

Catch up from my test with 256 and Tekken 5
V1 will not boot at all (JVS mismatch, too old version)
V2 will boot but just shows standard text om display like any other game, nothing specific
V3, waiting on @xodaraP to sell me his :P

Considering Tekken 5 officially shipped in Net City cabs I'm not sure if they would have got Cyberlead support.

if any 2x6 games had Cyberlead support it would have been the earlier releases like Soul Calibur II and Tekken 4

Anyone ever try Aqua Rush or Tenkomori Shooting on a Cyberlead? Those are my two favorite System 12 games. Would be cool to see how they use it if they do.

V1.1 won't boot with Soul Calibur either in case it hasn't been mentioned already, I think Tekken 3 and possibly Mr Driller are the only 2 that will

Also that depens on revision, I have a early A revision of Tekken 3 that does boot with V1, but the later revision I have D or E I think will not

don’t have a 246 anymore to test, but that could potentially work, anyone?
