DARKSOFT New CPSIII Ultra Simms! 8 times the size of a regular SIMM

How would someone play War-Zard/Red Earth with the UltraSimms? Do you need to use a CD-ROM drive to play it or should one wait for a NoCD rom?
 
I posted 2 BIOS, one still requires a CD plugged and the other doesn't. You don't need a CD plugged, but it's there so you can use it with regular SIMMs as well.
 
I forgot about the SCSI SDCard adapter. Would the NoCD BIOS for the UltraSimms then use the SCSI SDCard adapter or even that isn't needed?

Sorry for mu dumb question, how to upgrade a superbios cart to Ultra? Can I use original suicided or not cart with custom SH2 to ultra?

The NoCD BIOS doesnt need a SCSI2SD nor a SCSI CD Drive, you can just leave the SCSI port unplugged.

Original cart will not work as these have the CAPCOM (aka Custom) SH2. If your cart has a processor that is a standard SH2 (It says SH2 on it), then you are good.
 
I would have thought that because the old Multi Bios supported both custom and standard SH2 that the UltraBios would be able to as well. What's different about the UltraBios that makes it require a standard SH2?

Converting the UtlraBIOS to custom is doable but will take a significant amount of hours. It will be ready when I have time to do it, but there is another concern which is that there are some games that are available only for standard SH2 like 4th Strike or other mods. Additionally one would need another romset which is specific for custom SH2.
So everything very doable but time consuming.
 
So to understand the new simms... To use the multi I would just need the new simms and a CPS3 motherboard?
 
You need a cps3 motherboard, the ultra simms, and an ultra bios cart. If you want to play the CD versions you need a scsi drive (or scsi2sd). If you want to run the noCD versions then you don’t need a scsi drive.

You also need to program the simms yourself (or have someone do it for you). that takes either a scsi drive / scsi2sd and ~6 hours or the tl86 programmer and much less time.

Right now writing the Ultrasimms with a CD drive is not working. You can only do it with the adapters provided. So basically you need the kit, a motherboard and a cart with standard SH2.

I will try to release the BIOS for custom SH2 carts but some versions like 4th strike wont be playable.
 
Assuming you have NOTHING here is what you will need to run a NoCD* Ultra SIMMs CPS3 multi setup with the most capabilities:
1. a working CPS3 mobo (no other parts/pieces required, just the bare mobo)
2. the ULTRA SIMMs kit
3. a TL86 / Proman programmer
4. A Darksoft SuperBIOS Cart with the latest BIOS (NoCD* version)

If you have an existing Darksoft SuperBIOS cart....
If it's a repo cart you will need to desolder the SMD flash ROM and reflash it with the latest bios and then resolder it.
if it's an original Capcom Cart you will need to do the above AND desolder the Custom SH2 CPU and, buy and solder on a normal, standard, SH2 CPU (failing to do this will prevent you from running non-original games like 4th Strike).

Assuming all of the above is done, Installation is:
one at a time insert each of the SIMMs into the adapter included with the kit and program them using the TL86/Proman programmer with the appropriate "ROM" files.
Once they're all programmed install them into the correct slots in the CPS3 mobo, install the harness that connects the SIMMs together, install the cart into the mobo... and then enjoy the games.

*Technically you can run the CD version of the BIOS but it would require using the SCSI CD drive with a custom CD or running an SCSI2CD device, I don't think most people would want to do this though when you can get all of the games running without the need for this extra hardware.

I see the highscoresaves preorder, but it doesn't make mention of the necessary bios cart. How much is the new bios cart?

Currently I have the CPS3 multi with SCSISD running.

Will the ULTRA SIMMs kit ever come preloaded? Or will it always require an extra $85 or so programmer due to copyright issues? I have a couple sets of original hardware and original Third Strike kit/CD etc. Or hopefully perhaps one will be able to load from SCSI soon/eventually.

I any case, you'll need a new rompack for custom SH2 that AFAIK doesnt exist yet. It would be needed only for Simm1 and Simm2 as the other Simms are the same.
