Greeting everyone, hope all is well with you and your families during this Covid madness!

I would love to share my vision to building my Street Fighter V: Type Arcade Machine. I have started to assemble the parts as this will be an ongoing project for probably more than a year...

My inspiration for how I want it to look is shown in the pic below that I saw in a Japanese arcade but wanted a 2 player version, similar to my Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Chewlix/Vewlix, (pic below). (Yes, I know for the time being, there is only a 1player version...more on that later)

Parts I have bought and waiting for:
-The Chewlix Cabinet, Orange and Black and chrome trim near the speakers (cabinet pic below) with chrome under the control panel (As seen in the blue chewlix pic) (should arrive in July/August) as I customized it to look like the one in Japan. Ordered from Anthony Capobianco on Facebook
-Acrylic Marquee Topper (Should arrive July) Ordered from Erik Goetheer on Facebook

Since you asked for feedback here's my question: Why do you want the X4 version?

It's not going to work properly without having a Nesica network connected, and will be less featured than just running the Steam port on a PC with Brook converters, with less input lag and everything actually working to play.

You're not running it in an authentic Vewlix Diamond Orange cab, so you can't be a purist chasing authenticity. You're just going to end up with a gimped version in a Chewlix that won't really make anyone happy in the end.

I mean, whatever makes you happy. But it's hard to imagine it will actually make you happy in the long run.

I want the Taito Type X4 cause it's original hardware. Similar to my SFIV:AE, though it's a Chewlix, the games hardware, buttons and monitor are authentic, so gameplay is 1-1 the arcade. I will absolutely love the cabinet as I do my SFIV:AE. I have 0 interest in original Vewlix as this is for my own arcade/home. Other than thinner metal and cheaper internal components (amp,speakers, which I can change to the same ones used in vewlix), I like the Chewlix color and price better, personally. It wouldn't be authentic regardless of the cabinet as I want the 2 player version and the originals are only 1player. Honestly, the only thing I need is SFV:TA hacked like SFIV:AE was to play 2 player and have the characters unlocked and I'm good. Plus, there is someone online I have been following that also added Fighter EX Layer, Samurai Shodown (new version) and other games and would love a multi game, like my SFIV:AE that has many great games. Thanks for your feedback and I will update this thread once I get more info and parts

Original hardware for games like SF aren't worth it IMO. If there even are timing differences, which there probably aren't, any competitive setting is going to be a console version. For something like a SHMUP game, I at least understand the hardware vs MAME angle, though personally I don't care. You do you though!

Makes sense and true, but I still want the original as a lot of my collection is fighting games and have many friends that play competitively, so true hardware is a must for me
 
Here is my feedback from setting up multiple Vewlix cabs for home use, observations in the hobby, and recent sales. This is feedback and constructive criticism. In the end, its your choice, your money, your time.

If you are buying an official Vewlix Cabinet:
- Do not gut the cabinet of all its factory wiring or sell/toss it. You are destroying the options of selling or reverting it back.
- Best option to run 720p+ original arcade hardwares whether single game or multi.
- Can Tate the monitor
- Consoles, PCs, etc can be added with tons of options without removing or destroying the factory setup. JVSPAC2, buying or building a harness that connects to the original wiring to introduce Brooks boards. Adapters, etc.
- There are a ton of aftermarket and extra goodies out there cheap. Another example is the card reader covers. Why drill original covers when ppl sell aftermarket and precut custom ones.
- If you want to upgrade amps, monitors, etc. Again, why toss or sell the original items when having them down the road to revert or sell as a package is beyond me. Taito replacement parts are not cheap and even resell and reproductions of items aren't always available or exist.

Recently there have been several official Vewlix Cabs on the market gutted of everything and not sold with it for the silliness of a PC and/or console setups. If you are going to do this. I feel this is the perfect reason to buy a Chewlix originally to begin with.

If you are buying a Chewlix:
- Perfect for PC and console setups.
- For what it comes with? Gut away and put whatever you want in it.
- Still haven't see a model offered that can Tate properly off from the maker.
- Many folks spend more money to get it up to their liking. (Overall project costs)
- It's really not intended or feasible to be used with original arcade hardware. (Cost wise and alternatives)

Looking at your SFIVAE project. It's not a restore and it's missing key visuals of a Vewlix Capcom if that was your goal. The plexi and control panel. Restoration is to restore something original. Buying a Chewlix and making it look like an original is a 100% recreation, its a custom imperfect clone.

I agree with the others. With SFV:CE vs SFV:TA there is a huge difference. Are you going to cut corners with a Chewlix /w Orange plastics like the SFIVAE? SFV:TA has its specific CP /w usb as well. Are ppl gonna inspect the inside of the cab to verify original hardware? X4 hardware, I'm sure there will be a multi down the road and hacks/programs/interfaces to run other stuff. But again, using a Chewlix seems like going backwards. Like buying a Vewlix just to gut it for consoles/PCs.

Your friends who play competitively don't play Type Arcade. If anything they'll be confused by your gimped version that you're trying to load for them.

This isn't like the days of PCBs, where sure, your Third Strike playing friends only want to play on real PCBs because they can feel a difference. All the home versions have a little extra input lag compared to CPS3, they wouldn't be wrong. Arcade used to truly be better, for sure.

This. You won’t be able to update without Nesica, so 0.00% chance you’ll get Rose/Dan/etc.. You’re far better off getting that bootleg Type X3 hard drive with everything X3 and Ringedge on it, saving the money and having more games.

Also, Type Arcade isn’t the OG. PC and PS4 are. The original Type Arcade came out with the Arcade Edition patch 2.5 years into the life cycle.

Forgot to even mention that, but excellent point. The days of "arcade first" are basically gone. It is what it is. At best you get a simultaneous launch, but plenty of titles are launching on PC/console first, and then getting arcade versions after now. If they even get one.

I love playing on cabs too, I definitely understand the appeal. We play SFV on Vewlixes at my place. I just went the opposite approach. The Vewlixes are authentic, and the SFV is Steam.

It's pretty expensive as far as SF5 TTX4 goes for, but it's a nice kit!

You can find a X4 with 960 video card for 15K-20K JPY usually, but not with Sf5 game, they usually fetch a little more, but even then, pretty sure you aren't going to be able to play this without an active connection to NXL2 system, or access to the private system that's out there.

So if you want arcade version SF5, then you will need to use the build that's out there floating around, unless you have access to the newer version. It supports keyboard by default. Type arcade is only 1 player local, again you're gonna need access to the private NXL server that's out there, probably going to cost you $$ if you can get access at all.

Don't see those TTX4 kits for Sf5 with all those bits come up very often!

If I wanted to build a SF5 cab, i'd use the PC version, just because the arcade version you can find is an old version, and you can crank the graphics more on the Pc version as well. You can also do this on the arcade version, but you have to do it via text files and it's a PITA!

Interesting, never seen this website before. I may wait a bit once I get the parts that are on the way and see what to do about the hardware. I still want the X4 down the road

I will check what options are available later in the year once all the characters are available. I'm confident someone will figure out how to make a 2 player version with all the characters down the road. I don't mind waiting for it and with a multi game. I understand what you are saying, though
 
Actually, related question: is there an easy way to connect a modern PC to a vewlix? I wouldn’t mind having the option to pop my pc in occasionally if I’m in the mood.

Yes, it's very simple really.

For video your Vewlix probably has DVI in, you just get the right cable for your video card and your PC is set.

For sound you can just run the 1/8th inch jack, easy.

For inputs it's slightly more work to do it right, but still not hard. IMO the best way is to get a Brook board, around $50, and then wire it up to a JST connector. We can help you with the schematic if you need it. Then you can simply plug the PC into the Brook over USB, and the Brook into the existing wiring harness on your Vewlix with the JST. No hacking, everything stock, can use the Vewlix for everything you could previously.

Look I don't want to post here anymore, but this info just isn't true.
Assuming the cab is complete (ie has the JVS IO in the control panel) you want the JVSPAC2 from @invzim .

Its not that what you said wouldn't work, but you said "best way" wrong sir. ;)
