Apologies if my searching has failed me, but I am particularly looking for somewhere that has bulk solid colors and striped colors!

Thanks for all the responses folks! Looking into these tonight!

Curious, I am putting in an order at Akishop for buttons, and noticed they have Sanwa wire... Anyone have any experience with that?

Thanks!

That wire seems overpriced, unless its silver or gold, is that the price per foot?

Also, the question is what are you using the wire for? Will determine what wire your should use and gauge you should be using.

That sanwa wire is for 5m/16.4ft, so not too bad?

Ah purpose, duh... good point! It's for control panels and fightstick mods. :)

In that case a UL 1007 PVC jacket hook-up wire - 22 AWG - 7/30 stranded tinned copper conductor should be more than sufficient, one with slightly better resistance would be a 19/34 stranded conductor but will cost a little more. As long as you get it from a reputable source you should be ok. Expect to pay .08 to .14 cents a foot. Any more than that and its not worth it unless its silver or gold conductor :D

I’ve used that exact Sanwa wire from Akishop. It’s nice for control panels and button hook ups, but nothing special or different from wire you can possibly get from other places cheaper.

I had troubles originally finding the right feel pliable plastic shielding and had wasted money on two looms of wire I bought from RS (with mega thick plastic shielding) so I just caved in and bought small amounts from Akishop.

Oh man, so much beautiful wire in the USA. In isolated NZ getting perfect wire at a reasonable price is a major undertaking.

All I have to add is that there are two main types of sheathing on the outside of wire
Silicone has better heat resistance and is more flexible
PVC has better dirt and abrasion resistance

normally for anything that is exposed or going to get touched i try to use PVC as it lasts longer, looks nicer and doesn’t kink so easily. For internal applications, inside power supplies, or anything where the cable routing is really tight I use silicone. Silicone looks grubby quickly if it is being touched.

also be aware that silicone insulation is sometimes really fat. I have 22AWG pvc that is actually thinner OD then some 26AWG silicone.

Same deal in Australia @hatmoose — I’m still waiting for someone to link me to similar hook up wire to the Sanwa stuff from a local supplier or even RS Components.

Yeah the wires I use from RS components are "ok" but they're no Sanwa ones. I find them a little thicker and stiffer than the Sanwa ones

Here's my harness making station :D

I would like to match the colours with Sega standards, but unfortunately I cannot find any white/<colour> variations without it costing an arm and a leg. Shipping from anywhere else is also a massive factor for us here in AU :(

Next time I’m in Japan. I’m gunna hit their equivalent of Jaycar and max the credit card. Sanwa wire kudasai.

Just saw their range and they have a striped set of colours too! Definitely need to find where they get it from :D

This place might be worth checking out: http://www.asapwire.com/

They offer pretty much any combination of wire color and stripe color. Prices look reasonable and they offer services for cutting and stripping to your length.

I think this link matches the spec @Derick2k listed above: http://www.asapwire.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=21

I might try them on my next order and price out pre-stripped lengths for my harnesses.
